Motorola announces MING A1600 and A1800 with little fanfare
What a week for an almost-perfect Motorola device announcement, right? Motorola has announced the MING A1600 and A1800 with remarkably little fanfare. Spec wise, both handsets are relatively the same, both sporting GPS, touchscreens, Linux, A2DP, 3 megapixel camera, and more. The CDMA/GSM hybrid A1800 sports support for two simultaneous network connections, while the GSM-only A1600 tops out at EDGE. Why, oh why, is Moto crippling their GSM handsets with lowly EDGE connections? The Chinese target market is certainly part of the problem here, but you’d think they would at least, make some effort at a global launch with HSDPA support. Ah, we know! Because their MOTOMAXG OS doesn’t support 3G. That’s right! No pricing or release date info is available, but we wouldn’t hold our breath either way.
No, but MOTOMAXG can apparently support wifi.
Great phone, no wifi hurts, will never be sold outside of China.
i think u guys just need a reason to pan motorola(and boygenius u are included too)…in one way or the other…
xpixl which has wifi is panned for not having 3G….and this phone is panned for not having wifi…
guys u need to understand that all the feature cant be in all the phones…
i know the some phones of motorola are not as good as others in the market…but atleast do not write bad about a good phone..appreciate it

No HSDPA support, no good. If you can’t access your data plan while using your phone, then you will loose a lot of features other phones have today. Oh well….

The mind actually has a great form factor and while non-traditional works very well. I **realize** this is a phone for the asian markets where touchscreens are essential for writing, but they could easily do this as a halo phone in the US.

they need to sell it to t mobile. any phone packing a 2+ megapixel camera and doesnt have 3G or wifi???? sounds like a t mobile
I’ve used the A1200, the predecessor to the a1800.
I’ve now bought the N82, N95 (8GB), Iphone 3G. And yes, I interchangeably use all 3 phones. But looking back, the Ming is still my favorite phone, I was actually going to re-purchase it (I sold my old one). Although it lacks a good camera, and Wifi, the features and user-interface is by far the best. Even better than the iphone. Texting is much more intuitive than T9 and iphone’s keyboard. I can text so much faster on the ming than the iphone (cause of the intuitive texting – keyboard or hand written), plus the touch sensitivity is much better on the ming than the iphone, as its actual point and pressure as opposed to heat sensitive.
n95 and n82 wifi searching is almost useless, as the screen’s so small. convenient, but not usable for periods of time past 15 minutes. Plus processor speed is hampered by the browser and OS. Ming would more equate to iphone, as the whole screen would be GPS, and easier to navigate as its touch. I’m definitely looking forward to this phone. #1 major hamper is probably the 2.5 mm jack and the linux file system. Wifi would be nice, not totally necessary IMO anymore.
I’d have to say you need to use the Ming b4 u diss it. Its an awesome phone with great 3rd party app support, plus the clear plastic cover protects it and allows you to quickly check to do notes and everything. The old ming was still somewhat operable under the plastic wrap, plus having the flip cover was a great ‘hold’ button, as opposed to candy bar phones. Very attractive to everyone looking cause CAN & US don’t have phones this attractive.

FYI the A1800 supports 2 sim cards simultaneously
I fell in love with the A1200, when I saw the the A1600, I had to have it. I have not been disappointed. The camera is self focusing with built in flash, no more blurred photos. The flip cover is much easier to open in a hurry. No more reading sms, it reads it for u. The only fault it has u can’t find gps mapping to suit it. Maps not available for other parts of the world. Other minor fault it uses a motorola only mini usb. Other than that it is a good phone
