Samsung Omnia i900 hitting AT&T in Q3?

That’s what our AT&T boys in blue are sayin’! Want some details on it? Well, it’s rumored to have all the usual AT&T stuff like AT&T Music, AT&T Video, AT&T Navigator, and more. But, it’s also going to have AT&T Mobile TV, too. The other specs are pretty well know: a Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional device with a 5 megapixel camera with face detection, quad-band EDGE, UMTS, HSDPA, 3.2″ WQVGA touch screen (sadly it’s 240×400), Bluetooth, and either 8GB or 16GB of internal memory. We’re working on some press shots for y’all, but in the meantime, go on and keep comparing it to the iPhone 3G…
Thanks, Omie!

I don’t think that this phone will have video conferencing. The HTC Touch Diamond does though.
I have had a few Samsung phones. They are well thought thru and add in some nice extra features.
Hopefuly the OMNIA i907 touch interface is getting a LOT MORE TESTING FOR SPEED than HTC’s Touch interface seems to have received. Of course, if it seems slow, one can always revert back to the WinMo interface, I supose.
do you when ATT,will get the omina i900? and how much it will sell for?
I thought I’d go on a rant here about Apple, AT&T, and the iPhone. I’m sick of everyone praising Apple so much. I have an original 4GB iPhone. I love my phone but what irks me is that Apple refuses to listen to consumers. It’s like they have their fingers in their ear and yelling “I caaaan’t hear you….I caaaaan’t hear you”. They just don’t listen. How dare some marketing exec say “copy and paste isn’t important”. Clearly they aren’t reading the blogs and news stories online.
I’ve always been a phone lover, always toting the latest and greatest. One thing I’ve found is that with every phone there is give and take. You get something cool but you give up something else. How hard would it be to take the best of all worlds and put them into one phone? Let’s take WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, touchscreen, full web browser, A FRICKIN microSD slot, copy and paste, ability to sync notes with Outlook, ability to carry files on your phone like a USB pen drive much like you can do with Windows Mobile, a music player, a large screen etc etc and put it all into one phone!? Why must each manufacturer pick and choose when we all know that every feature I listed is completely useful. For me I don’t even use the iPod feature on my iPhone. I’m 28 years old and never had the urge to walk around with earbuds in my ear listening to music like a 17 year old. I do use the radio and iTunes when waiting for my car to be washed, so that’s an example of hey I use some things and don’t use others while others may think copy and paste is useless but totally love the iPod feature.
Time after time Apple refuses to listen to customers. Update after update they add SOME useful features but mostly a lot of BS ways for them to make more money (i.e. iTunes store, App Store). Speaking of AppStore I’ve never seen such a HUGE bunch of garbage applications in my life. What is this? A bunch of games and useless applications. Why hasn’t anyone designed the 3rd party piece to sync my notes with Outlook? Why hasn’t anyone designed the copy and paste function? How about an iPhone drive where I can drag and drop items like my resume to bring to the office when I’m looking for a new job. LoL. Oh I forgot, Apple probably said “NO” since they’re picking and choosing what apps hit the app store. I was excited thinking this AppStore meant all the apps I had hoped for would be there. I mean hey they’ve done it on Jailbroken phones why not be legit?
I’ve never owned an Apple PC before and this is my first Apple phone and probably my last. Now that the competition has gotten a glimpse of how Apple did things they will follow suit and improve upon it. Thus far I’m not impressed with the iPhone clones but given time I think we’ll see some great iPhone alternatives with simple features like a microSD slot etc etc. Windows Mobile has Apple beat in application flexibility, and plain old useful features. Not to mention you can find just about any App you wan’t for Windows Mobile. I’m looking at the Sony Xperia X1 and the Samsung Omnia to be the first real iPhone challengers.
I also think Apple dropped the ball when they didn’t create a second iPhone model with a full Qwerty keyboard like HTC Touch Pro and phones like BlackBerry, and HTC sliders. Blackberry killer?? I think not. What real business user who send frequent emails is going to give up their BB keyboard for a touch screen keyboard that doesn’t even at least have haptic feedback? Not going to happen. I’m not sure why RIM is worried. Even with Exchange support the iPhone is still not the best tool for blasting out lengthy emails.
I’m also disgusted at how Apple refuses to make comments about things in public. Why must everything be under wraps? Why must everyone speculuate on what they may or may not be doing? I know they think it’s a good marketing tool but it’s actually pissing a lot of people off. Let us know what we can or can not expect so we can decide if we want to move on. I think that’s sensible. And stop ignoring your customers.
I think the problem is the cult following and the fact that Apple can say srew a replaceable battery, forget about a microSD slot as if people could drop in memory cards Apple wouldn’t be selling 16GB iPhones and iPods like they used to. Same with the battery. How ridiculous is that? You can’t replace the battery. What a joke.
I love my iPhone it was a learning experience however for me when it comes to Apple and AT&T. Speaking of AT&T what gives them the right to charge more for service for iPhone users? If that’s not price discrimination I don’t know what is. They claim iPhone users use more web/data than any other phone. Hello, of course we do we have a real web browser? How is it our fault and why should we pay more?
Just my 2 cents.
I have to agree. Switched from ATT Tilt to new IPhone 3G… While the large screen and form are nice… function is quite lacking. I will probably sell it on ebay for alot more than I paid for it and go back to my Tilt until the Omnia comes out. I use it as a business device first and entertainment second and the IPhone is not stacking up.
I was in the same shoe as you. I did buy the Dare to try it out. Great little phone, but I want the Omnia instead. Asked Verizon about the phone when I returned the Dare today, they said they will not get it initially, AT&T will, but you never know she said, they might get a cdma version after its been on the market awhile. I think I will change services to AT&Tif the Omnia is not compromised when it hits the US market. I read today for the first time about the possible downgrading of the phone. How disappointing. Hope not.
I miss the good old days when a phone was just a phone! bring back the star tac or the samsung t509. All I want is a phone that is good at making calls, is that too much to ask?
T-mobile phone selection stinks like monkey poo, if there customer service wasn’t so good I’d have left donkey years ago
(
Sorry to disappoint but I just spoke to a Samsung rep for Manhatten ,Queens and Brooklyn (he was at an AT&T store) New York and I was told that the phone was not scheduled for release 3Q and he had never even heard of it, he said they were releasing a new touch screen / keyboard type Blackjack. Bigger screen than the current Black jack
yes it will explains the cam in front i think it is onlly 2 or 3.2 mp but its still good
Derrick,
Way to go man! I have been thinking writing something in a forum just like you did. I am completely standing behind you. Screw apple and their phone deal with AT&T. There is all these stupid people who say well the Omnia is so expensive and the iPhone is so cheap. I am not sure how they check on their monthly charges. THAT’S WHY IT IS SO CHEAP. Somebody home McFly?????? It is actually a good idea to get the expensive cost of a device down a bit so more users can afford it, but people just don’t get it. Your monthly bill will be higher.
And yes, I agree, they are so ignorant about features you need. How do businesses think they are going to get their tasks and notes synchronized to their phones. Oh, that’s right, I am business user, I don’t need tasks … and notes, not necessary. So what, we have a half integration now?
And I also completely agree with you on the file system stuff. You plug WM into the laptop and it looks just like another drive. It is so damn easy, my grandma could understand that … iTunes, whatever … I tell you iPhone users, you try the Omnia for 3-4 weeks and use it with all it’s features, you are goinbg to sell your iphone on some auction very soon. My 2 cents …
The Dark Lord
the iphone 3g does have bluetooth
@boogalooboy
I have AT & T for my old iPhone and it has very good reception. I don’t get dropped calls, like some people note. Did it ever occur to anyone, that some dropped calls are sometimes based on the other persons poor cheap phone and
unreliable service?
Yes I’m going to gt the Omnia.
The 3G iPhone truths:
The iPhone uses HSPDA at 3.2 mbps- or 3G speed (Omnia uses 7.2 mbps speed – or a 3.5G phone– 4 megabytes MP3 file in 7 seconds or less)
The iPhone has no video (the Omnia has video plus video editing on the phone itself)
The iPhone has no TV video out port (The Omnia has video out for Powerpoint presentations or anything else)
The iPhone has fixed 2Megapixl picture camera. (The Omnia has 5 Mega pixels with Macro, dynamic range, zoom, face recognition, etc).
The iPhone plays mov and adobe flash video (The Omnia plays divx, xvid, wmv, MP4, H 263/4, mpeg, mpg)
The iPhone has has no text reader (The Omnia has Word for windows with cut and paste, etc)
The Omnia has Powerpoint, Excel, Word for Windows.
The iPhone has a hybrid GPS with no street by street audio help- not realtime. (The Omnia has a true GPS with street by street audio telling you where to take a left or right, etc in realtime.)
The iPhone has no true recording capability, except for some poor 3rd party applications.
The Omnia has true voice recording and playback.
The iPhone has no voice recognition calling (the Omnia has true voice- call contact name, for example.
This is just a partial list.
I hope this helps you decide.
The 3G iPhone Truths- continued Part 2:
The iPhone has no expansion port (The Omnia has a microSD slot).
The iPhone’s battery is not replaceable. (The Omnia has a replaceable battery that you can remove and replace with a new one or a newly recharged one).
The iPhone has a full HTML browser. (so does the Omnia- the page displays entire web page initially and then you can with a flick of the finger, expand the page in realtime to any size you like and move it to the right location with the touch of the finger- similar to the iPhone).
The Omnia comes with two cameras. One in the front and the 5MP in the back. The extra front camera is used, so the other person on the other line can see you (if they also have the Omnia- great for deaf people). The future use of front camera is obvious- face to face talking or seeing a realtime event live!.
The Omnia has a FM radio with recording capabilty at 128kbps- near CD-quality.
The iPhone when plugged in gives you iTunes browser to work with, and you’re at its mercy of what you can or can’t do, the iPhone (esp in th Windows XP and Vista) cannot be used as an external removable storage of files that you want to drag or drop. (The Omnia when plugged in the USB, becomes an Removable storage device (just like a memory stick), where you can drag and drop to and from the device and computer, things like aplications CABs, MP3s, videos, zip files or slf-extracting encrypted files, or pictures (jpg, bmp, tiff, etc) etc.
The iPhone has a slick touch screen OS. (the Omnia uses the TouchWiz OS which mimics pretty much the same principle as the OS X on the iPhone).
iPhone has some cool games which can use the accelerometer (So does the Omnia- it also has a accelerometer, lots of established software exists for the Windows Mobile world- eg software emulators that can play all Super Nintendo games, can emulate DOS games without a glitch- Doom engine games and Quake, etc- work fine on a high speed 624mhz Marvell CPU- including software to overclock the CPU to 800mhz and higher.
I hope this also helps you decide on the Omnia vs the 3G iPhone.
What decision is there to make? Omnia is a slam dunk over the IPhone.
does anyone know when this phone will be avail in US via one of the ususal carriers?
^ Yea I wondering the same thing. Because after drooling of this jewl. I think I know exactly what phone I want to get!
Well i just bought the phone a couple of days ago and im still waiting for it…this phone has everything and more that the iphone doesnt have…the only thing that it was stopping me from buying the omnia is that i doesnt come with 3g capable….and still dont know if it will come to the US.. so i decided to get and sacrifice the 3g support since we dont know if this phone will make it to the us…i hope someone will give us information if this phone will actually make it to the US with 3g capability…

SOMEONE….ENDGADGET MAYBE….JUST OPENED ONE UP AND SET IT UP ON ATT. REPORTED STRONG WEB ON EVDO. SO IT MAY BE OK.
Yeah, I have AT&T and on my ten minute drive to work every day…my phone drops a call at least three times. So frustrating. And it’s not like I live in the boondocks. I live in a beach town in San Diego, CA…
If you have Verizon, you can just get the Diamond. Same thing but lower memory, no microSD, but with a regular microUSB port, better screen resolution, TouchFLO 3D, and a back button (not that useful but can come in handy). It is has only been announced for Sprint so far, but if you get MetroPCS to unlock it ($30+service plan with no contract so you can just pay $30 and whatever the first month costs), then you might be able to get Verizon to activate it for you. Of course I heard rumors that the Diamond may also go to Verizon but under a different name and probably different features.
@nicci
It’s actually up to 16gb, with microSDHC up to 16gb. That’s a total of 32gb.
when will the omnia be released in the us?
