AOL releases new Windows Mobile AIM client, hell freezes over

This is a happy, happy day for any AIM addicts toting around a Windows Mobile device. There are 3rd party solutions (JiveTalk, what up!), but it’s always comforting to get a piece of software directly from the source. AOL has finally released an updated AIM client, and boy does it look sexy! We’re giving it a go right now but sadly, it doesn’t look as if we’ll get file transfers at the moment. Let’s hope this feature makes it way into the final build as it is still in beta. It also is said to be compatible with just about every Windows Mobile device — Standard or Professional, 5 or 6. Anyone looking to give it a try? Hit us up and let us know what the verdict is!

seriously what took them so long? i checked it out, its on point, doesn’t turn your windows mobile into a sidekick killer. there was so much more could’ve been done with it. i would rather keep my tag team of a treo and sidekick. plus im sure the connection would drain the battery in no time. plus its a little laggy

I put it on my Q and it seems alright, but I can’t seem to backspace. It does the normal ’step backwards’ action that ends up closing the program.

    it’s also a bit slow, but I’m hoping that’s just because it’s a beta.

works pretty good. I’m actually impressed. It just took way too long to come out and Google Talk is way better.

Claims it works on “All WM 5 and 6 devices”…. T-Mobile Dash is WM 6, (you could assume that the “ALL” part would mean smartphone or not)but it still does not work….

AIM was also brought back to Windows Mobile by AOL as part of “MyMobile” in April.

After playing with this for an hour or so. It’s pretty darn nice…the interface is cool. I’d give it two thumbs up.

AIM mobile should work on both Pocket PCs and Smartphones if I remember correctly. The controls allow you to do everything with the directional pad and two soft-buttons at the bottom.

It lags quite a bit on the Mogul and it’s a bit hard to scroll down on your buddy list becasue it selects a screen name instead of doing the finger flick like for example in JiveTalk.

i have it on the wing, and it lags, but it may be a combo of it being on the wing and beta. but once they get the bugs out, this is gonna be the shit!
