TIME Magazine + Cell Phone Industry = FAIL
Remember back when being a part of mainstream media meant something? Respect, dignity, hard work, research, fact checking, deadlines and so on. Ahh those were the days, but my how times have changed; especially when it comes to the cell phone industry. They just don’t get it. Kind of makes you wonder what else they’re missing, no? Anyway, we’re now quite pleased to present to you the iPhone G3. Mmm. Found within a TIME Magazine photo essay entitled The Long Odyssey of the Cell Phone, the iPhone G3 is apparently a very important part of mobile history. Quite a retrospective. We’re also very impressed with the fact that TIME recognizes the long and storied journey that mobile technology has taken - so much so that it has been captured in a total of 14 slides. Good show fellas, top drawer.

Every single customer asks about that phone, and they almost all call it the “iPhone G3″. Or they’ll say so the new iPhone has that G3 in it? Or it’s got that 3 thing right? You guys getting the 3rd generation iPhone in right? I couldn’t understand where these people got G3 from but now it sort of makes sense.

Time’s cell phone dude already works for Gizmodo. I knew there was a reason I left them for Engadget:

They don’t get it alright. It also tells you that it’s not to late to get in on Apple as a stock. The company is taking the music industry by storm and now sells more music than any other medium even overtaking Walmart, who would have ever imagined this ten years ago. Now in just a year have set there eyes on the telecom world. I mean who really think that Motorola and Nokia will be the same?

They fixed it. It was still stupid, however.

Oh my God… TIME magazine, who are you hiring?
FAIL. FAIL. and FAIL.
It reminds me of the Gilmore Girls episode where Rory Gilmore was “interviewing” a teenager about Free Music Downloads, and she appeared totally oblivious of what he was talking about. How to ppl not aware of what’s happening in the world end up as “journalists”?
It’s not about being “able to write”, ppl. It’s mostly about knowing what you are talking about.

Different global regions write this the other way around to the US. In other words 3G and G3 are both correct, which you use depending on which country you are in.

@Illa, I just checked and you may be correct. Must have changed four or so years ago. I distinctly remember being annoyed by the fact that the ‘Generation’ kept flopping sides as you moved around the globe.
