HTC releases performance fixes for TouchFLO 3D on Touch Diamond
If you’ll recall from our recent review of HTC’s new flagship Touch Diamond, we were a bit underwhelmed by the GUI’s overall responsiveness and performance. Sure, it’s a beautiful new way to navigate the doldrums of the Windows Mobile interface, but what good are appearances if there’s nothing underneath to back it up? Apparently, HTC has taken note of the TouchFLO 3D issues and has incorporated a number of fixes into a new ROM version that is now shipping with every European-spec Diamond to hit the shelves. The company hasn’t spoken to any sort of specific tweaks or changes they made, but initial subjective reports seem to favor the new firmware over the original version, with users reporting a faster, more responsive experience. Unfortunately, all of this is a moot point for American users hoping to get their hands on a compatible version of the phone, but at least we can rest assured that by the time it does officially land on our shores, many of the early kinks will have been worked out.
Nothing wrong with updates, but I’m a little wary when the purpose is to fix sluggishness.
Reminds me of the series of ROMs Toshiba sent me to repair the slowness of the HD-1A. That didn’t work so well.

ok here we go, i got this phone in late may,i guess it was the china version,i was pissed as hell. My rom version an built may 26 2008, an it was st8 garbage. my att card worked but the sound was bad, my tmob card would only work if i was in a big city, if i was roamin, no go. it would freeze, the touch flo wouldnt activate, it was a hot mess. well yesterday i was able to get the new built rom. 1.37.405.1 wwe built 6-10-08. well well my tmob an att card works just find. as far as 3g, not sure yet bc im in small town america today where there is no 3g,will find out monday when i get home. the sound is great, the touch flo is prefect. point.. if u can find one get it. it does work in the usa, right now im in hicksville usa with full signal edge on tmob. be carefull cuase their are alot of the china versions out there, with the old rom. the uk version is what u want, or find the rom built june 10th 2008. an u will b ok…thats my story an im stickin to it )
Very nice and I salute HTC for the effort. But you still have to swipe and wait for the effect to happen after the swipe is over. This is unacceptable. On the iPhone, 18 months ago, you swipe and WHILE your thumb is moving, the UI reacts and moves along. This is what makes the entire UI smooth, fluid and lovely.
I blame WM. HTC have done everything they can to improve it, and I can’t wait to see what they’ll do with Android…
err the europe/south east asian version you currently have do not support the 3g bands in north america. wait for the offcial US version so it supports 3g from US Carriers (but not european/asian carriers).
