YouTube ups maximum video length to 2 hours for partners

In a move that will hopefully encourage rampant film piracy, looting, and general anarchy, YouTube has begun removing their existing 10-minute video length limit for select publishing partners. The company sent out an official memo stating that they will be offering a new 2 hour/1GB file limit for anyone with a sanctioned presence on the site. We’re guessing this is a defensive move, aimed at countering offerings from competitors such as Hulu. By partnering with corporate publishers, YouTube will also be able to explore embedded advertising revenue streams, which should help them generate a bit more cash. It will be interesting to see if any significant partners jump at this opportunity, given YouTube’s stigma as a “low-budget short-format grainy-quality” powerhouse.

Nice. I don’t think they’ll allow piracy though. Youtube is very strict about that. Sucks of course.
