Ok, chaps. We just got the much-awaited Sidekick LX OTA courtesy of the good folks over at Danger. And yes, it does record video! Aren’t you excited? We detailed a long list of what the OTA contains, but we’ll post it again to give you a recap:
- Capture videos using the new video mode
- Playback from the SD card or email attachments using the media player
- Share videos via email, Picture messaging, and Bluetooth
- Listen to songs or videos using a stereo Bluetooth device
- Send and receive photos, videos, or music via Bluetooth
- 3 IM clients & enhancements to AIM® and Yahoo!® Messenger
- Create and join group chats
- See who is logged into IM from the address book or email and instantly start a conversation
- Set a custom status message then keep chatting
- Search for friends in a buddy list
- Got more buddies than you can keep track of? See who’s online right from the address book or email, and search for friends in your buddy lists
- Select how Web pages are displayed based on preference
- PC-like, full-size layout to pan & scan while reading o Standard Sidekick screen-size layout to simply scroll down the page to read · Mini Page to zoom out on an overview of an entire Web page
- Save images from Web pages to the SD card Personalize the way you want to surf
- Device does not restart after a download. Just install an item, and it’s ready to use
- Capture videos and share them directly from the Camera app
- Video integration for playback, send, and save to gallery
- QuickFind: search for keywords across applications to find messages or information
- Spell Checker

You have a Sidekick iD. It’s been discontinued. Don’t expect any OTAs for it.

Discontinued or not, I demand a OTA for Sidekick iD, otherwise, I’ll go with a different phone for my next purchase.

i can understand you wanting everything this ota provides except for video. the skid screen is like 240×160? im not sure but i do now its not at all good. so playing video on such a low par screen would not be enjoyable

Looks like the SideKick is finally becoming what it showed the promise to be way back. I’m not a SK user, but these features bring it much closer to a device anyone with media-centric needs would want. Kudos to Danger!

Umm the id doesn’t even have a camera, why the hell are you getting pissed over a phone that cost $50. You sound like the slide users pissed that they didn’t get an update, the more expensive phone has more features. Basic marketing skills. You want better features, then buy a better the next gen phone.
Anyways, nice OTA and this gives me hope that the next Sidekick will be amazing.

Well, I’m just waiting for the OTA Update to reach Las Vegas. Or me at least. And who cares if the screen for video is small, its better than not having it at all. Boy I’ll tell you…. (Charlie Brown Voice) Good Grief!

I believe by the second week in july everyone should have the update. Of course that’s a whole month removed but still. It would be nice to get by say…. tomorrow? COME ON DANGER!!!!!

The sidekick ID been taking off the market becuse its lack of sales it was a downgrade for SK3 theres no more OTAS for it trade it in or get a different phone for your next buy it not hurting t-mobile

The OTA is random. Someone in NY could get it and someone in California could get it and no one in say Flordia. Its random.
The Sidekick iD has been discountined so no more OTA for them. Also the is no way it could get video. One big reason, no camera.

Yo this is update is gonna be off the chain. Can’t wait for it to come out especially for the bluetooth features. Really I was ready to get the new iphone but after I heard of this update I had to keep my lx. Yeah I know the lx has nothing on the iphone. But for real aint no one got anything on the sk plans. Where else can u get im, email, sms,mms for $20.

Well you can get any unlocked phone. Go with the $6 tzones plan, and unlimited text for $15. So you will have the exact same for $1 more. But you will have a phone that is much better than a sidekick, or any carrier phone for that matter.
And don’t feel bad your sidekick isn’t getting video. The resolution and fps is terrible. The sidekick is really a phone for little kids that don’t know what phones exist outside the local mall.

I been hearing these news about the OTA over the last two months… I been waiting, it suppose to start in june 25th, but there people receiving this update already… so ill wait and be patient… I live in california… but its about time the LX has all these new features…
