It’s Firefox Download Day; Download Firefox!
Considering all that Mozilla has done for us - displaced Internet Explorer by giving us what is arguably the best and most versatile web browsing experience, for free - the least we can do is help them out when they ask us for help. What is it they want us to do? Download the latest version of the Firefox browser. Yup, that’s it! Mozilla is trying to set a Guinness World Record for the most software downloads in a 24-hour period. The official release of Firefox 3 will become available for public download at 10:00 am PST / 1:00pm EST and judging by the tremendous loyalty that Firefox users typically display and the crazy amount of buzz, the record should be theirs. We’ve been using version 3 for a while now and we have to say, it’s good stuff. Mozilla claims that Firefox 3 brings with it over 15,000 improvements; no small upgrade! Most notably in our eyes, the latest release candidate is worlds faster than Firefox 2 and gobbles much less resources. It will take about a week for the Guinness World Record judges to review Mozilla’s download logs so we should find out whether or not Mozilla successfully broke the record around this time next week. As of the time this post was written, just under 1,690,000 have pledged that they will download Firefox 3 today.

If your not using Safari Firefox 3 is a must, I’ll say firefox is even better than Safari on the Pc platform but if your running OS X any of the 2 will be a great choice

Firefox was still a resource hog on my Mac vs. Safari. The address bar was also annoying, although you can download an add-on to revert it back to 2.0 style.
I give it a 3/5

You have to be a huge online/web addict to really care about what browser your using. I’m fine with IE7 for what I need and never had a problem.
But for those who are really nit picky on resources for your pc (for those with 512mb ram or less…if thats even possible today) and want a million improvements (in areas you probably will never ever notice) then go for it!!!

Daniel, very bad post - you get a D for not knowing how IE7 rates compared to Firefox. Also for thinking that hogging resources applies to all computers not just the ones under 512mb. Not an F because those are reserved for Galvatron.

Im so sorry teacher! Please forgive I will download Firefox immediately so that BGR loads .5 seconds faster!!!
Calm down guy, I’m not bashing firefox for it being useless, its a good browser and infact obviously better then IE7.
But alot of ppl will never really see the difference afterwards unless you are really tech savy, (and again) a internet addict.
But you get a “A+” for trying to get at me though okay.

Kind of hard to get a world record when your servers shit themselves under the load.

So, where’s the download? All I’m seeing (when I can get the page to load) is the download for 2.0.0.14.

Mozilla = fail
WTF. Get me excited and then your servers crap themselves and I don’t even see the link for 3.0. brutal.

This is gonna sound hella fucking nerdy but I was up at 12 A.M. last night and hit reload but it was still showing 2.0.0.14. Now I can’t even get the damned thing to load so I can download the fucking thing!! WTF!!!!!!!!!!

Well, at least it SAYS it’s a FF3 download page now; too bad it still links to the last release of FF2.

Also saw…

I copied it as the page was loading.

Yup, it’s fantastic. At 2:35 it is finally showing the new pages for FF3 but the download link will take you to a 2.0.0.14 release (and if you click the link it fails).
It is funny to see the “Help Firefox Set a World Record” link on the page. I’m not sure what record they are trying to set, but at the very least they’ll set the “most http request failed page refreshes”, the “most unsuccessful downloads”, and the “most feet ever swallowed” records hands down.

This new FF is absolutely amazing, it looks better, it runs better, and it already screwed up by syncing IE instead of FF2 for my bookmarks.

The “mine” thing is gone and I see a list of v3.0 downloads now.

And officially posting with a 3.0 release. Very nice. Seems like only minor changes since RC3…which is exactly how it should be. Aside from the snafu on world record day, fantastic job Mozilla team!
