BlackBerry Bold hits Rogers on June 25th?
We’ve got two independant tips on this date, so let’s hope it pans out to be true. AT&T corporate is still telling their Fortune 500 customers that the Bold will launch in “July/August”. Hopefully Rogers will swift kick them in the ass and get them moving. What’s holding up the Bold, you ask? Well, nothing. The units went into production a while ago and the latest software build is extremely stable. It’s all up to the carriers now. What say you, friendly Canadians? Raiding a Rogers store on June 25th for a BlackBerry Bold? Our previous Rogers release dates were spot on, so we’ll see!
UPDATE: We’re now hearing July 17th with the launch party on July 8th… go figure.

For Rudy,
I doubt Apple is giving ATT anything for selling iPhone. Wasn’t there just an article that finally came out that said that AT&T won’t even make money on the iPhone for at least 2yrs? So, that would be incentive enough right there. They won’t want anything that may hurt the iPhone sales to launch at the same time because they need to sell as many as possible to actually make money on it sooner.
If they could, they probably wouldn’t release the Bold at all this year. My guess, is that AT&T doesn’t launch the Bold until late August for that very reason and the only reason it’ll hit by August is because RIM said summer release.
@ wifiguy
I imagine the sim card will work for both but the bb has a different data package so probably no dice (although I’m no expert and may well be wrong). When the Motorola Q9h?, whatever it’s called, came out on ATT, i wanted to test drive it in the worst way. But my ATT guy(s) were saying that I wouldn’t be able to get back on the same bb plan if I bailed on the Q9. So I stayed put with my bb. And after I put the opera mini browser on it, I was/am pretty happy. Way better than the native browser.
@ Ryan
Yeah, I’m almost in your camp about RIM snoozing and losing my business on my next phone. iPhone 3G is very enticing, very sexy, and I LOVE APPLE PRODUCTS. BUT… I’m not doing w/o my MMS, my cut/paste, my keyboard. I’m just not. I’m with Shelley on this one. So good luck with that.
@ Nokia E71
So close and yet so far. 2.5 headset jack?? Why!? No thanks! No USB? Again, no thanks. And that bizarro keyboard lay out? No thanks.
What will make up my mind is if Rogers allows WiFi browsing on the Bold. They have recently released a version of the Pearl with WiFi but browsing is locked out. (Shame on you Rogers)
Data plans also will be a factor. We all know how expensive BB packages can be and also how much data an iPhone can eat up.
Does anyone know generally how long before a new Berry is released in the States it would come to Europe (specifically Switzerland)?
Cheers,
Oz
You guys are waiting for the crappy Bold to come out? Get over it. RIM is dead. The Bold has the same lame keyboard as the 8800 series phones…where is the Bold with the curve style keyboard?
Their OS is horrible. Their integration can’t even compare to the iTunes simplicity of setting up an iPhone and installing apps. RIM’s lack of integration with the Mac is the reason they will fail. Mac users speak, they turn their friends onto great products, but unfortunately, the the Bold won’t be one of them.
This is it for RIM. Over the next 2 years Blackberry’s will be phased out of businesses in favour of more powerful, modern operating systems. Stop doubting Apple, you’re just going to lose. I’ve seen it happen time and time again.
Rim fail….. you look at the sales and tell me who sale 2units to every one iphone. I will say the iphone looks great but that’s about it. you call the BOLD crap but yet all the stats are the same if not better than iphone. http://blackberryforums.pinstack.com/showthread.php?t=76066 lets see what you apple fanboys can say to that!
Have people who are so excited about a 3G Iphone and are going to switch actually tried typing an email on one? It’s a horrific experience. If you want it to look cool, that’s fine, but let’s not get carried away in thinking the iphone can do stuff the new blackberry can’t.
Actually, official launch is on July 08, 2008 (6:00PM).

I have heard tale that the SIM in the iPhone will not work in any other device.
Is that for Rimm as a whole or for an individual carrier?
With all the fuzz about the 2 new Galdiators on the 3G market, how much will the BB9K be?
I think this will be also a factor of success or no success. The Iphone 3G priced about 50% below the first release, that’s very aggressive to start with.
@mrl14
you are honestly the most retarded person I’ve ever seen on this site with that post.
hahahahahh…RIM will fail
LOOOOOOOOOOL
honestly…get a clue dude.
what it comes down to is this. everyone can live without the iPhone…noone NEEDS movies or music in their hands. but on the flip side…try making a business person live without their BlackBerry…they’ll probably kill you first.
“I hear the units have been at AT&T’s distribution centers for a while now.”
Where do you guys get this stuff from? There are no RIM 9000s in any AT&T warehouse or distribution center. The thing hasn’t made it to field testing yet!
@mrl14
I agree with your comment about itunes. It would be nice to be able to use itunes on a blackberry. But wait the Bolds new OS will support itunes and all the other aplication that RIM is known for.
Hmm guess I don’t agree with your comment then lol. Nothing against the Iphone or Mac os but the sad truth is that without full and secure outlook echange support they can’t really compete with RIM and other corporate PDA’s. Apple makes an awesome product but not until the corporate mindset changes will apple be able to compete with windows and be a corporate standard..
Funny how PC’s (personal computers) are lossing ground to MAC for personal use but PC’s really don’t have competition when it comes too corparate use.
Rogers is also releasing the iPhone on july 11th. if you click “learn more” on the Rogers site, it will show you a clip from the press release stating that they are also releasing the iPhone 3g.
The Rogers website says “Something really big is coming July 11!”. I wonder what it is…

Coulde it be.. Godzilla des ka?
@mrl14 Yeah. You’re an idiot.
I’m not too sure about BB’s and Macs but I know that the Bold will be iTunes ready. Lets put that one towards the top of the list, “Why You Don’t Need/Want an iPhone”.
Sure, busienss people need email, but they also won’t want to live without a decent internet browsing experience on their phone either. The web is the only reason I have an iphone. I don’t even use the ipod functionality.
I CAN TELL YOU ALL AS A MATTER OF FACT, THE RELEASE DATE IS JULY 17TH, NOT JUNE 25TH
@MRL.
Shut Up, you don’t know what your talking about. The Government even uses Blackberry’s because of how secure emailing on it is. Find some way for Apple to be that secure, but I don’t see that happening for quite some time now. I think its funny how Apple has been in the phone market for just under a year and people are predicting its takover of all things mobile. Is it a nice phone, by all means yes. Is it the “End-All” phone? by no means what-so-ever will it be. All it did was usher in a new era of advancement, just like the RAZR did. So stop all of this talk about the iPhone dominating the phone market, it just aint gonna happen.
Thanks BGR for giving us the best intel out there. So many other BGR wannabes think they know what they’re talking about. From what I’ve seen in my quest for info about the Bold, you’re the only one with credible stuff (which others quote). Keep up the good work!
I’m a huge Apple fanatic (an iBook, MacBook and iPod Video owner) and I don’t think I will ever own an iPhone.
There are a million reasons…one of the big ones being the keyboard and how you cannot get QWERTY in landscape mode, and there’s no haptic feedback either. I love picture messaging, but having to know the correct email extensions for each of my friends can be extremely annoying.
And having to send my phone to Apple for service (particularly for the battery) doesn’t appeal to me either considering I’ve had a battery failure on my iBook already, and I can’t get my iPod to hold a charge for more than 2hrs anymore.
I don’t necessarily love the design of the Bold, but that’s not as important to me as are the features and the durability of the unit.
anyone know if the blackberry bold goingto be for us cellular?
