Sidekick LX OTA hits the streets June 25th, contains madness
If you’re like us, you’re not giving that Tony Hawk Sidekick LX the time of day. But, you don’t want to feel left out when all the other cool kids in school are taking videos of their gnarly sk8board tricks. What’s a Sidekick-toting fellow to do? Well, the much-awaited OTA update for the LX will hit on June 25th. It will be a rolling OTA as usual (they slowly spread it out across the devices which can sometimes take up to 4 weeks) and we’ve got the exact details on what it will contain. Below is an easy-to-read version of what we were able to translate.
- Capture videos using the new video mode
- Playback from the SD card or email attachments using the media player
- Share videos via email, Picture messaging, and Bluetooth
- Listen to songs or videos using a stereo Bluetooth device
- Send and receive photos, videos, or music via Bluetooth
- 3 IM clients & enhancements to AIM® and Yahoo!® Messenger
- Create and join group chats
- See who is logged into IM from the address book or email and instantly start a conversation
- Set a custom status message then keep chatting
- Search for friends in a buddy list
- Got more buddies than you can keep track of? See who’s online right from the address book or email, and search for friends in your buddy lists
- Select how Web pages are displayed based on preference
- PC-like, full-size layout to pan & scan while reading o Standard Sidekick screen-size layout to simply scroll down the page to read · Mini Page to zoom out on an overview of an entire Web page
- Save images from Web pages to the SD card Personalize the way you want to surf
- Device does not restart after a download. Just install an item, and it’s ready to use

I recently just got THE LX it is also my first contract phone. I personally think it is one of the best “smartphones” out there. All you other “smartphone” user keep throwing 3g out like it something we are uncapable of using. It has already begun to roll outsoits just a matter of time. I only use my LX for the data plan its UI(user interface) is the easiest out there the ease and ability toswitch between program migth I add flawlessly is incredible. I don’t know what the diss on EDGE is sure it not the fastess but it isnot the slowest and battery saving and reliability is unmatched in my opinion. Before all you bb users start saying it is because I haven’t used other phones you are mistaken I have used the iphone and blackberry and both are respectable in their own right. But none of them have the pizazz of sexy motionof the swivel to help when getting that one hot girls number(trust me it works). And with MS owning Danger best believe things only ger better. They are going to turn sidekick into a monster to crush the iphone just like the zune did the ipod muwhahahahahahaha. But like I said all phone has an edge over something all phones can’t do everything but the side kick has the edge over one important field and that is sexy appeal. For all my LX owners master the one hand open and close and you are good I don’t think the bb or iphone can do that. So to wrap it up I say to each his own
Wao I can’t belive people spend time looking for inf that they wanna talk shit that’s what I call waiting time if you don’t like the sk don’t look inf about it and stay whit you iphone 3g w.e :/ I love my sk lx and ill love it more afther ota update and the sk is a phone for young aduls and one of the phone that curd comunicate fasther and and got the confort to type faster so get it right ;] ***************
Hey does the OTA include anything about java support?
Ok im typing from my sidekick lx right now and I can say its gonna be way better than the ifone when it gets this update the ifone still lacks video and the sidekick has so many features and the ifone always sais cannot connect to server wich is really retarted like 3 of my friends had them and it could never connect to the internet also it is definately not for textin the keyboard is just to cramped up it takes about a month to get used to also it sux at the speaker for calling although the sidekick has a similar problem the ifone has it way worse
Okay, I have the sidekick right now, so the update will be sent to my phone??

Sidekicks are the easiest smartphones to use. Blackberrys have all those apps nobodys ever going to use. All the sidekicks need is the ability to go like on youtube and maybe download music and hell its a computer. And the keyboard is the best not all cramped like on blackberrys and doesn’t take a hour to text like on the iphone.
So this update wont play videos from the internet will it?? dang it

For everyone out there worried that they didn’t get the OTA today, there’s no need to worry. The update is going to be a rolling OTA, meaning it will be sent out randomly to all LX users. To be more specific, they will be sending the OTA to 1000 LX’s in the morning, then another 1000 in the evening and so on til everyone has received it.

yea so I’m tlkin frm my sk lx aswell… the OTA, for all tht might b in doubt, has happened in previous times so it can b done. b4 the lx I owned the sk3 and b4 tht I owned the 2. there were random times where I wud wake up in the morning lookin @ a message informing n dwnloadin OTAs tht I didn’t even kno about. plus if boygenius says its commin I believe them…they’ve been a reliable site as far as I kno. jus 2 add extra info tho, it is the 28th n I still haven’t gotten my update but I didn’t even find out about it untill 2day wen a friend told me.
i just copped me a sidekick and i am fresh at tmobile. the lx is a bad boy man i switched from verizon to tmobile just for the phone and i can pretty much say…im happy. but being fresh with the service, danger should make an acception for new custos so we can get our otas first lol but just my luck haa. for all them sk haters, straight up blow me..ya is hatin cause ya’ll aint got no moneys to cop a sk

Yea dude amen on that mobile window just lags like mother****** when u slide the screen or when u touch something on the screen it won’t respond as fast from the mobile phones I seen
so everyone who has a sidekick lx will get the ota update or just certain people? does it cost us anything?
are you people serious? come on do some research! yes, everyone with an LK will get the ota, no slide ota this time. it is free. yeah its free just like every other ota from them… did ya’ll even read the article? by the way I haven’t received my ota yet but everyone will get theirs before JULY 15! so stop complaining that you don’t have your prescious ota yet. its a completely randomized way the give out the otas. My friend got his yesterday and he lives down the street! chill out!
ya ma mans this ota is gon come soon but ya gotta be patient. its gonna be bad ass tho man, it would of nice to have it before 4th of july but no worries
Wow, so much Sidekick bashing…let me just say this. I work in technical support for t-mobile, specifically handling blackberries & pda’s-like the windows mobile devices (Dash, Wing, etc.)…and even I use a Sidekick. No, they’re not as advanced as other PDA’s…but at least they’re reliable. My emails arrive, messages & call logs don’t delete out on their own, the device doesn’t freeze up all the time or call people on it’s own–all known issues with the Berries and WM devices. For basic messaging/internet features, it’s handsdown the least frustrating device to use on the TMO network.
how long will it take to get to all the sidekicks will i have it by august
