Given that T-Mobile is the the only other GSM carrier in the US, I see no benefit in selling the 3G iPhone for $399 again unlocked. People will still say it is expensive. Remember that although Apple sold it locked for 399, they actually did not require you to activate it in-store and people were able to activate unlock it in 1 min. However, not many people used it with T-Mobile. There is a difference on how the mobile carriers work in EU and the US. From what I’ve read, AT&T have much better 3G network coverage than T-Mobile.

Personally, I really don’t care whether AT&T or T-Mobile is my carrier. What I hope for is the ability to have my iPhone unlocked so I can use it with other carriers wen I travel overseas.

IMO, when you buy the 3G iPhone you will be getting the SIM card separately and you might have to activate the phone at home. This will allow Apple to allocate devices easily (remember Apple said that it was not easy to move iPhones from Europe to the US when supply went low few months ago).

I was all pumped about finally jumping off verizon and on to AT&T/Iphone until all these new pricing plans came out.. now i have a bad taste in my mouth for apple and i never liked AT&T to begin with.. where do they get off charging more and giving less? oh right got to make up for the price drop in the phone.. save $200 now.. end up paying $400+ more in the long run..

would have made a lot more sense if that front facing camera was on there and video conferencing..

I have read that anywhere from 50-80% wireless users in other countries are prepaid vs postpaid whereas in the US it is roughly 10-12%. IMO prepaid is much better for the consumer, so long as low airtime and data costs are available. Unfortunately how we pay in the US lags behind the rest of the world.

i agree with both of thos statments buying the iphon unlocked heck if it worked on tmos frequncy youd sell even more lets get real here who enjoys paying att’s monoploistic rates leat alon puting fiant or trist in them. the telco is not your friend it wants the bottem line

adn if i recall before apple jobs an woz wer going to make blue boxes with the help of captain crunch whistles

so in a way the apple att alience is hypocracy at it’s finest.

but yey sell the handset unlocked heck people will buy n95’s unlocked why not give them the same thing with that overhyped POS

Apple should just break the 5 year exclusivity contract with AT&T, pay whatever fine or penalty and start selling them unlocked retail in America. They’d sell more phones than they could possibly imagine.
