Verizon gets official with the LG Dare, LG Decoy, and Chocolate 3
Today is a big day for Verizon. The company announced 3 shiny new LG handsets, each with a specific market niche in its target. All of the handsets have been circulating through the rumor mill for quite some time, but it’s always nice to get official confirmation, right? The LG Dare is an all touch screen affair, sporting a 3.2 megapixel camera and gesture support on the input side. No price or availability date was announced but Verizon promised more info by the end of the month. They were similarly coy about pricing and availability specifics on the Chocolate 3, but did make the 1GB of internal memory, clamshell form factor, and 2-megapixel camera official. Finally, the LG Decoy should hit stores by next Monday, slotting in at $179.99 with a 2-year agreement, seems to mark the first widely available American handset with a built-in Bluetooth headset. This is all well and good, but until we can actually get our hands on a Dare and a Decoy, we’re gonna take a rain check as this all had the feeling of an announcement about an upcoming announcement. Is LG the only company constantly making new CDMA feature phones now a days? I know the VZW lineup is crap because nobody cares about CDMA and everyone produces worldwide for GSM. Seems like most of the good CDMA feature phones are LG.

I got a brand new pearl when it came out on vzw by extending my contract one year.. See if you can finagle your way in.. they want money for the phone, of course so be prepared to pay out of pocket a little..

EVERY COMPANY PRETTY MUCH IS MAKING CDMA PHONES RIGHT NOW. VERIZON JUST TESTS THEM A LOT FIRST. NOKIA HAS ONE OR TWO COMING UP, LG HAS A LOT, BLACKBERRY HAS ONE OR TWO, PALM HAS 2 COMING UP, MOTOROLA JUST LAUNCHED A NEW ONE AND I BELIEVE HAS ANOTHER FEW ON THE WAY, AND SAMSUNG HAS THE GLYDE AND OTHERS COMING OUT.

The new new every two is a screw….
The only phones available are data capable phones, and you have to pay at least $39.995 beyond your current phone bill to get them. If you don’t need the data stuff, you’re screwed and would be better off buying on ebay.

I thought so.
Don’t get me wrong… I would *LOVE* to see 10 different companies making
phones that have all those features. I’m just not seeing them over the past
1-2 years. Maybe they’ll get on the ball in 2009 or 2010????
(Of course… they will STILL be trying to play catch-up to the Iphone v3.0)
