BlackBerry Thunder: after the storm

We caused a little commotion when we posted the above shot last week. No it’s not a mock-up, dummy. But, there have been a flood of questions about the BlackBerry Thunder (remember, this is still a codename) so we’ll answer the most important ones for you. First off, yes there is a SIM card slot and it is under the battery of the device. Under the battery is also a microSD slot, so don’t expect it to rock a ton of internal memory out of the box. As far as release date is concerned, we’re still hearing Q3 of this year on Big Red. The cool part, though? It looks like the chip they are using supports almost everything. CDMA 1x, EV-DO, GSM, GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, and HSPA. Any other questions? We’ll be here all day! Just drop a comment.

Marketing-VZW customers, don’t forget the LG “Dare” will be coming out soon as well. From what I understand that is supposed to be around the same time the new iPhone drops for AT&T. Being its another full touch screen phone, will it delay the release of the “Thunder”? Or will they release at the same time….which VZW is notorious for rolling out several phones at the same time? Also, wouldn’t it make more sense for RIM to release it around the same time as the new 3G iPhone? Perhaps stealing Apples “thunder”? Soon to be taken over by “Storm” (storm=code name for Thunder w/ sliding keyboard)? Maybe RIM is going to make this a much more aggressive approach than we think finally putting an end to….who makes a better phone?
Okay, maybe to good to be true but it does make sense….I’m just sayin.

Yes…in the logical world you are correct, however, BlackBerry does not separate their quarters the same way we do here in the states. They begin Q1 in December. There is your lesson for the day, sweetheart. =)

Do you know if there’s a much improved browser on this phone? The browser on all the blackberries suck. Not sure what better speed does for you if you don’t want to browse.

This is straight off the RIM website. So if Q3 is its release, and it’s going by the RIM fiscal year, it could be almost December before it comes out.
