iPhone 3G!

If you managed to stay awake through the beginning of today’s WWDC Keynote, which was no small feat, you’re probably already aware of the big news. Apple has officially announced the next generation iPhone. The iPhone 3G sports many of the enhancements that have been rumored for months, including 3G data, GPS, updated design, better battery life, and much more. It will also be much cheaper, launching at $199 for the 8GB model and $299 for the 16GB. The 8GB will be available in black, and the 16GB will launch in both black and white. The new phone will ship with iPhone firmware 2.0, which will include support for Apple’s new “exchange for the rest of us” dubbed MobileMe. The phone looks like a fantastic update to the existing model, but sadly won’t be available until July 11th. Honestly, this killed our morning. What good is a shiny new iPhone if we can’t get our hands on it? Seriously. Hit the link for the official Apple page. Thoughts? Disappointment? Anger? Excitement? Bewilderment? Let us know, as we’ve got plenty of time to discuss the thing before it actually launches in July. Did we mention that this killed our morning? Right.

Summary time?
1. Data plan for the iPhone 3G $30USD
2. Camera is 2mp.
3. No Video Capture
4. (Still) No MMS.
5. If you’re on an existing 2yr plan, you will have to re-sign to a new 2yr.
6. No mention if it’s now eligible for FAN (Corporate discounts) Although it may just happen.
7. Yes, there is still Wifi (B&G).
8. No FM radio.
9. Back needs to plastic in order for the antenna to get better reception.
I want one.
u think the touch prices will decrease on the release of the 3G iphone?
I can’t see how it will compete with any Blackberry for heavy email users…the touch typing is impossible. Any experienced BB typer will never switch…and no Bluetooth? Another business user killer. On the other hand, I wish I did not have a job and could just enjoy the iPhone…but I can’t.
Now with even more shitty plastic!!
Wow. I cannot wait. The new price is…affordable for teens like me! I am so begging my dad to get this for me when it comes out In July!
waddayou talking about, no Bluetooth? Yes there is, just as there was in the older iphones! Bluetooth does not support STEREO headphones (on the olod, unclear on the new), and doesn’t support tethering but otherwise works fine!
just to let you know inside iru manager of at&t announced the iphone 3g is eligible for IRU AND CRU discounts yes this means your fan accounts do apply to the rate plan of course. not to the features unless you work for apple
yes there is bluetooth don’t worry
you will be eligible to upgrade to the iphone 3g as long as you sign a new contract in store.
at&t and apple announced iphones must be purchased with a contract in the U.S. only some upgrade customers will be eligible there will be no noncommitment for iphone 3g activation is done at Point of sale only
pretty hard to unlock considering the update and also the fact the only way to get one is at the at&t store and have it activated at the register not the same as 2g model where you can go in buy and leave.
Hey
Apple…
You release a mediocre upgrade, and price it where it should be, and everyone has a freaking COW.
In three months they will upgrade it with cut/paste and everyone will “Ooooh and Aaaaah” as if Apple had invented something new.
In three more months they will upgrade another model with video capabilities and fans will freak out.
Finally, the iphone will approach what a FREE phone can do with all other manufacturers.
Why do APPLE fans give Apple so much credit for selling them short?
The Nokia N95 rocks the SOCKS off the iphone as far as capability, but it’s not an Apple, so people ignore it, and because of it, it’s still $600.
I do admit, that the way the iphone responds, and does what it does, is pretty amazing, but come on… the features they are milking are so basic, that it’s pathetic that people give them so much credit for their smooth marketing.
It just goes to show you. People don’t buy products because they are useful. They buy them because they are sexy and sleek and they make them feel cool. Well, not that the entire world will be able to afford iphones… there goes the cool factor. I guess those who paid $500 for theirs a year ago are the original “cool” ones.
Oh, and what about the World Trade Center Towers. Do you guys still believe that anybody but our own government blew those up… Talk to anyone who’s seen a tall bldg demo’d No building falls into itself like that without a LOT of planted explosives!
We are but mere puppets!
