iPhone 3G!

If you managed to stay awake through the beginning of today’s WWDC Keynote, which was no small feat, you’re probably already aware of the big news. Apple has officially announced the next generation iPhone. The iPhone 3G sports many of the enhancements that have been rumored for months, including 3G data, GPS, updated design, better battery life, and much more. It will also be much cheaper, launching at $199 for the 8GB model and $299 for the 16GB. The 8GB will be available in black, and the 16GB will launch in both black and white. The new phone will ship with iPhone firmware 2.0, which will include support for Apple’s new “exchange for the rest of us” dubbed MobileMe. The phone looks like a fantastic update to the existing model, but sadly won’t be available until July 11th. Honestly, this killed our morning. What good is a shiny new iPhone if we can’t get our hands on it? Seriously. Hit the link for the official Apple page. Thoughts? Disappointment? Anger? Excitement? Bewilderment? Let us know, as we’ve got plenty of time to discuss the thing before it actually launches in July. Did we mention that this killed our morning? Right.

    Not really impressed
This will probably saturate the market with iPhones (ideal for Apple), which sucks for the die hard consumers.
I hope they make a model which has more features for a slightly higher price…..

Hmmmm, what I am immediately hoping for is a update to MMS before 11 July. I am mad disappointed about no front facing camera & also they needed to include a 3.0mp or Higher camera at this point that’s a minimum requirement. I think what apple is trying to accomplish here is their 10 mill projections & at this price point they will. I am also quite disappointed that their is no 32GB option especially being that the Touch has a 32GB version. Shame on Apple for that. I know the back change was to be able to lower the price point but I think they should offer an aluminum high-end version with all the things missing that true smartphone aficionados want. I am an apple junkie & I agree with the person who said we don’t buy apple for the price, we buy it for the quality. Right now I am giving it a 5 out of 10. A high -end 3G release would get an 8.. The verdict is still out…

What about those of us who have the original iphone? will we be eligible for the announced 3g prices – or will we have to pay a higher price if we want to upgrade? I bought one earlier this year — can I just sign another 2 year contract or will I have to pay more?

Well looks like a great buy to me. No device will ever be perfect or have all the features to pleases the masses. There may be comparable or even better phones coming (BB Bold, HTC, etc) but none of these can touch the apple platform (the combo of the App Store, Itunes/ipod integration, and now Mobile Me). There is no debate in that. Why do you think everyone is lining up behind them – because everyone realizes this.

By the way, aGPS as far as i understand it, is better than GPS,

I would be concerned about the quality of the materials used on the back of the new iPhone. Plastic is going to scratch easily and look horrible when it gets damaged.

Where is the innovation? Apart from some me too features, nothing exciting this time around. Still no external microSD support. Still low resolution despite a large size screen. No front camera for video call. No this and that. A big disappointment.

They need to make an iPhone Pro of sorts that looks different from the base iPhone… Way too many people will have this new one, and the “look at me” factor will be eliminated.

lets call it what it is: iphone 1.5 (lite)
this is like a free sample crack the dealer gives to get you hooked. minor improvements with a huge price cut to corner the market with anyone who’s up for an ipod or cell phone upgrade and lets get real fill the 10m quota.

anyone on this site will be disappointed as this was not an actual second generation iphone.

lets all at least agree on one thing: hillary is to blame!

I was kind of hoping for a 32gb model, but really I know 16gb is enough for me personally. Price is pretty much awesome I don’t know who can say no to it.

How much is the phone without a contract? Same as before I guess? 399?

Can you even buy one without a contract?
