iPhone 3G!

If you managed to stay awake through the beginning of today’s WWDC Keynote, which was no small feat, you’re probably already aware of the big news. Apple has officially announced the next generation iPhone. The iPhone 3G sports many of the enhancements that have been rumored for months, including 3G data, GPS, updated design, better battery life, and much more. It will also be much cheaper, launching at $199 for the 8GB model and $299 for the 16GB. The 8GB will be available in black, and the 16GB will launch in both black and white. The new phone will ship with iPhone firmware 2.0, which will include support for Apple’s new “exchange for the rest of us” dubbed MobileMe. The phone looks like a fantastic update to the existing model, but sadly won’t be available until July 11th. Honestly, this killed our morning. What good is a shiny new iPhone if we can’t get our hands on it? Seriously. Hit the link for the official Apple page. Thoughts? Disappointment? Anger? Excitement? Bewilderment? Let us know, as we’ve got plenty of time to discuss the thing before it actually launches in July. Did we mention that this killed our morning? Right.

Do we have to pay additional chargers to use AT&T’s 3G network???
Any word on MMS and copy/paste?
its only 199.99 but for those of you who dont know its going to be 30 a month for the data.
This really bummed me out what horse hooey, Having to wait more than a month is absurd. I will get which ever comes first Experi, Bold or 3G iphone. The race is on.
Can’t wait they needed this in 3G! They say it will scratch with the new glossy Black Back Big deal you can buy a custom fit scratch proof clear film to protect it for cheap @ http://www.gadgetguard.com. They need to increase the storage space on this puppy I wonder when that hits
I wish it had MMS, but I am sure someone will create an App to allow for it.
That $199 and $299 price points sure makes my EFT seem like nothing.
it really is not fair to have all these people including myself so excited for what semed as the longest time in the world just so you can tell them at the end, that the new 3G IPhone wont be available for another month.
man it sucks
but im anxious for the 11th, of next month
should be a great day for apple and at&t
Cool! The most overrated device on the market right now, just got a little more overrated!
This is a question for BoyGenius or anyone else that might now. This whole MobileME is sort of confusing. Does it work with other email accounts besides the @me.com account? Browsing around Apple’s store online and viewing the video demo’s they continually make mention of @me.com account and not mentioning any other email accounts. So, it’s sort of like you Apple’s push email service, but it only works for their email account? Going off of the fact that you also have a storage limit makes me believe that it is just their email account that’s supported only because BIS doesn’t have a storage limit; it’s storage limit is whatever your email account storage limit is.
crap i expected more not a re-packaged old model with 3g radio
glenn, they have not announced the data prices yet. I think it will be the same.
for me since there is not 3G where i live (for another 6mo.=/-) I will wait to get one. Unless BG feels like giving me one.
I think the price drop is the highlight of the conference. As for mms, video and copy & paste; just have to wait and see what 2.0 and the apps offer.
God I’m glad its not just me that still sitting here wondering…is that it??? I feel kinda of ripped off. 3G, check, GPS, check Battery life…ehh check… CHEAP PLASTIC BACK and NO other upgrades, with a huge price drop.. O JOY… I dont purchase apple products because they are cheap and economical, i purchase for their quality. Lame..
Two questions first one being more important
1 Why would they not have upgraded the camera, I can’t imagine cost being an answer.
2. Why no 32gb option?
The apps are the best part imo…. Wonder if they will be able to unlock this thing. Dont think 3g will work over the tmobile network though because they have a different frequency. Never know though.
can we get a comparison of this and the blackberry bold? looks like they missed a lot of the basics again. assuming the unlocked version will cost more or less the same which one is better?
hells yeah.

What’s the big deal here? There are no new surprises with this phone. So they added 3G. That catches them up to everyone else. They added a GPS. Again that’s a catch up. The price point is great, but they’ll make up the difference by tying apps to iTunes.
But the new iPhone didn’t improve the video, they didn’t improve the processor, they didn’t improve the memory, it still has a 2 megapixel camera that doesn’t do video, you can’t change the battery or extend the memory. Again, what’s the big deal here?
But does it really have HSDPA? From the speed tests done by Engadget, it doesn’t seem to have it. Which is a huge bummer.
I’ll wait for the touch diamond
@monkey read again…. huge price DROP. thx
data is upped to 30.00 per month. and NO mms. also, i don’t think they are planning on adding the option to save pictures to the phone from email… apple really hates its customers. apple should go to hell.
Ok…..all that is fine & dandy but, i’m still looking for the ability to forward text messages and send a text to a group!!!! Any word on that??????
@ EVERYBODY…
Did you really expect Apple to reverse course from their business model and dump a ton of new features on you? Why would this be any different to the pace of upgrades given to iPod, iBook, and iMac? You’ll get your video recording, MMS, etc. It will just have to wait for the 3rd or 4th generation.
And to those who say this will kill all other smartphones in the enterprise market…. really? No doubt the iPhone has the best web browser, music and video player, and “hey everybody look at me” factor. No doubt it is and will remain a huge hit. I personally own one but I basically use it as an iPod Touch with an external speaker and web access away from WiFi. For an email device and phone I use my Curve. For the enterprise market, something as simple as a physical keyboard is hard to replace with the FAD that is touchscreen-only devices. (yes I said it).
