iPhone 3G!

If you managed to stay awake through the beginning of today’s WWDC Keynote, which was no small feat, you’re probably already aware of the big news. Apple has officially announced the next generation iPhone. The iPhone 3G sports many of the enhancements that have been rumored for months, including 3G data, GPS, updated design, better battery life, and much more. It will also be much cheaper, launching at $199 for the 8GB model and $299 for the 16GB. The 8GB will be available in black, and the 16GB will launch in both black and white. The new phone will ship with iPhone firmware 2.0, which will include support for Apple’s new “exchange for the rest of us” dubbed MobileMe. The phone looks like a fantastic update to the existing model, but sadly won’t be available until July 11th. Honestly, this killed our morning. What good is a shiny new iPhone if we can’t get our hands on it? Seriously. Hit the link for the official Apple page. Thoughts? Disappointment? Anger? Excitement? Bewilderment? Let us know, as we’ve got plenty of time to discuss the thing before it actually launches in July. Did we mention that this killed our morning? Right.

still missing key components that weren’t mentioned in the keynote speech (to my knowledge). What about MMS? Copy and Paste? Recording? is it the same camera? Still things that aren’t up to complete par for symbian phones. but, it also isn’t 600 dollars either. I guess it is a give and take world. So many people will buy this phone though.

I don’t know whether to be excited that I finally have reason to get an iPhone or upset that I waited all morning to be told to wait 2 more days… Agh.

As long as it’s an AT&t exclusive i have no interest

I am really bummed this isn’t getting released today. What about all those containers seen coming in? I’m excited for the update and what we’ve all been pretty much wating for, but god damn… another month? I’ve already been waiting nearly a year for the 3G version. Apple has taken away a bit of the fun. Plus, I can’t imagine them not having any iphones to sell for the next month, since they are already out of stock of the current (well, what was current) iphone.

Yeah, I was also wondering about cut/paste. I use that ALL THE TIME on my bb curve. But I prefer the keyboard and was waiting for the Bold to come out. Apple gave us the price and the release date. BB provided neither with any specificity. Although now that Apple has priced it SO competitively, I imagine BB may have to follow suit which would be good for all of us.

I’m an Italian guy… i’m REALLY upset… Where’s the upgraded Camera? The Flash led? The 3G front camera? The new design??

Am I the only person wondering why 16GB is still the max storage if the touch goes up to 32GB?

MMS???
copy and paste???
Video record????

I still would prefer it be more expensive and have a full feature set. It lacks MMS & Stereo Bluetooth & potentially video recording. It still does not have a removable battery and does not feature expandable memory. It lacks a front facing camera which is potentially an issue for international customers. I also do not like the plastic backing, the aluminum back seemed more appropriate for a quality device. Who knows, it’s a great price point.

To be honest, I’m disappointed. No front facing camera, no uupgrade to the current, crappy camera, no mention of video, MMS, Copy/Cut & paste, its actually thicker, not thinner…I mean what did they change? Other than 3G and plastic back? The only other improvements come from the 2.0 firmware which looks great, but c’monApple. A whole year and thats all you could come up with?

Apple’s Apps Store is going to kill RIM and Nokia.
It doesn’t matter how good their hardware is its these new generation of apps that will push Apple sales to the top of the heap.
In one year Apple has already become 3rd largest phone provider with a 1.0 product. This new push with the 3G phone, apps, cross platform sync and iTunes is going to be real trouble for traditional phone manufacturers.
What a great time to be a consumer.
