I am not familiar with the Symbian OS so I have a question. Can a phone that has this OS be updated when the new version comes out or is it dependent on Nokia to provide an update?

that on screen keyboard looked tiny! typing with a stylus no thanks! i love Nokia but i hope they get this right before it’s released. And yeah that ass was sweet! WOW!

Noah, the point is that a touch UI should mimic the physical world to be intuitive. If you touch a scroll bar, then the scroll bar should follow your finger/stylus and the page -content- should move in the opposite direction. If you touch the page itself, then the -content- should follow your finger/stylus and not move in the opposite direction.

The trackpad is a bad comparison – you’re not touching content on a screen, you’re using a glorified mouse.

And yet when you use the two-finger apple trackpad gesture and drag down the page moves down as well.

Point is, if the system emphasizes that the drag is a proxy for the scrollbar and not the page itself, then it’s not a problem. iPhone OS X avoids this by never showing a scrollbar in a default state, but that’s not how S60 Touch is laid out.

Really, which would be more counter-intuitive? Having a page work to completely opposite ways depending on where you touch it, or the same way no matter where you touched it?

lmao i did radio! and yea about the web browser thing..it kinda goes either way. because although it did go opposite of her finger, if you look at the scrollbar, it moved at the same time. if you dont kno what i mean, look at the video again. the speed she moved her finger was the same speed the scrollbar moved. so it was like she was using the scrollbar. even though she didnt the actual scrollbar, it would have a scrollbar feel.

and i dont think that’s a mistake either, for the ppl talking about how its just what the video effects guys put in. reason being is because the scrolling did the exact same thing when she was in the phonebook after typing the txt message.

Ill have to agree with this one. With Windows Mobile, I don’t care what home screen you put on it … its still Windows Mobile. Its a clunky OS, that is why people always want to dress it up. With TouchFLO 3D, you have a very nice home screen, but every other application will still be crap WinMo. Most people don’t like the way WinMo works, and covering up the home screen is not going to make it any better.

The only mobile systems right now that are geared for touch are iPhone and Android.

i think the s60 touch will definitely be worth noticing
this is still early in development and if its anything like the current s60 firmware i know there’ll be a market for it

Even the HTC TouchFLO UI is slow. Really slow.

Nothing rivals the speedy and fluidity of the HTC Android Dream and the iPhone, today.

The YouTube section looks weird is because the whole UI demo is still a fake. You can just feel it. The video special effect guys try to do their best though. Symbian is wayyyyyy behind sadly. Windows Mobile with HTC Diamond UI is actually pretty decent now.

I hate the opposite scrolling. It is very annoying! One of the main reasons I couldnt use the PointUI interface on WM.

btw Youtube page went the wrong way.

S60 Touch:

- is Slow. Even on their promo video.
- ….stylus (oooh must have that)
- is ugly.
- IS NOT A FINGER-BASED UI. Just look at how small the menu items are. Reminds me of windows mobile 4 years ago.

The only nice thing is flashlite. And this will be on every phone around Q4 2008…

Actually the page did go the right way. She moved her finger down and the page went down as well.
