Verizon’s Palm Centro gets ready to make an appearance
The Centro, Palm’s little handset that could, is getting ready to make its Verizon debut. Beginning Friday June 13th, the phone will be available through all of Verizon’s retail channels, and should run you $369 outright, $339-$70 MIR with a 1-year contract, and $269-$70 MIR on a 2-year bid. We’re also being told that there will be a $100 discount offered to anyone willing to sign up for a compatible unlimited data plan. The phone has already shown up on Verizon’s Testman site, though the company has yet to upload an actual device image. The Centro has been a major seller on AT&T and Sprint, and we’re guessing it will do similarly impressive numbers on the big V. Anyone biting their nails in anticipation?
Thanks, Omie!

There are always bottom-feeders willing to pay the least to get the least. However, Verizon and Palm insult even those people’s intelligence with this schlep!

I actually have a different spin on the Palm Centro, I think it’s great for the smart-phone beginner. Usually college-aged people that don’t necessarily have the money for a Blackberry plan and don’t need all that functionality. That’s how I see it, but that just me of course.

I’m waiting for it!
So its coming out on 6/13 and VZW could be canceling $100 discount for signing data plan on 6/15?
That gives you 2 days to get this discount? That doesnt sound right.

I think the Centro is a good starter smart-phone also. My wife has one, and it’s easier for her to use than my BB!!

Lol at bottom feeders I’m have to agree if I wouldn’t give my 12 niece a piece of crap like this phone that like buying a fake gucci shirt just to flash when you could have bought a regular shirt and saved yourself the embarrassment

The price of $199 is comparable to AT&T. Widely advertised $99 price on AT&T and Sprint are w data plans which should be same on Verizon too.

The palm centro is a nice beginer phone. However, beware its short commings. First the desktop software is NOT compatible with windows XP media version. Second, You can not enter a date book event that crosses from one day to the next. It will cause the desktop software crash. Third, if you enter a contacts birth date in the contacts page it will nolonger show up as an event in the date book. You must manually enter it into the date book. Fourth, If you have an issue, when you get through to India for tech support, don’t count on much. They will you the fix is to remove the software and reinstall it. So if you keep these issues in mind and can work with them the Centro is a nice basic device, not for the hardcore business proffesional.
