Want to get an iPhone ASAP? Raid the stock room at AT&T stores
We just got this message from someone who works for AT&T. It was sent by upper-management to stores:
“Just an FYI that as of today, the only iPhones left to sell are those in your inventory rooms in store. There will no longer be any availability online or via direct fulfillment from either Att.com or Apple.com as I understand.
That means that you should leverage this and sell those you have ASAP as you are the ONLY place someone can buy an iPhone at right now!”
Not something we didn’t really know, but it looks like there will no stock of any iPhones until the new one is released. We’d bet it’s coming sooner than later, as in next week. Could Apple really afford to release it at the end of the month with no stock left at all now?
love the iphone and am seriously looking forward to the new 1, but all the stories and lack of info from Apple is killing me! Oh well, I sold my 1st gen. on ebay for a profit, and will be at either Apple store or AT&T with cash in hand on release day for a new one!
I just talked with my corporate ATT rep. He indicated that “without making an official representation to me” – that I should expect that announcement to come prior to the actual availability in ATT or Apple stores.
This seems aligned to be with some new views/rumors surfacing today about the timeline being announcement on June 9 – and availability in the stores on June 18. It also aligns with the ATT memo on no vacation after June 15 and the hiring of temporary personnel to manage lines starting on the 16th.
I am seriously doubting the validity of rumors that the Phone will be available at time of announcement on Monday at WWDC.
Anyone have “tangible info” to support or sqaush this theory?

Just to let you know, stores on West Coast are still showing 8gb in transit and have recieved them as early as today…dont always listen to “upper managmnt” they have really no idea whats going on…

It was a guess the date of the annoucement and if you got it right those people would be entered for a new iphone?
Allow me to state something, remember that cluster F*ck of credits ATT and Apple were giving for that within 14 days crap when they dropped the price. The A-Team is going to try to minimalize that as much as possible. We had people coming in for months thinking they were entitled to money.

my schedule does not say this. Thats another thing, we scheduled like crazy and had every register filled on the release date. That takes lots of planning on our part. I want it bad too, but, its not just going to come falling out of the sky. End of the month sounds tentative guys.
I can’t wait until this is all over so I can stop hearing about it.
I like the others who are waiting for the Bold or even the rumored Thunder. Give me a Blackberry over an iPhone any day!

Your schedule probably doesnt say that because they would not let the launch date slip out that way…it would all be for nothing if AT&T let the cat out of the bag with retail level, grammatically challenged reps. Steve Jobs would have someone killed…seriously. The general consensus is within a week of announcement, probably before the 18th. But when it really comes down to it, very few people within the company know (very top tiers of management), and those who do are bound by NDA’s, etc…the bottom line is most it the company knows as much as the next guy, and are looking to Steve for the details to be filled in.
ATT wouldn’t send out an email internally using that kind of language. The internal emails are very vague and typically are cryptic at best.
Mike, your sales rep is blowing smoke up you @$$, he has no idea what he is talking about. There is nothing floating around internally at ATT about the 3G iphone, rollout of said phone, or lack of stock. I will say that there has been a lot of work around upgrading the capacity and speed capabilities of the actual wireless network to support a barrage of unstated 3G devices. Deduct that to logic, 3G Blackberry and the 3G iPhone, but again, no hard data on devices.
