Is OS X 10.6 coming next week?

We admit, this seems a bit unlikely, but TUAW is reporting that the next iteration of Apple’s OS X operating system could debut as early as next week. According to the site, Apple is preparing to seed developers with an early version of the new OS. 10.6 will reportedly focus “solely on security and stability”, with little to no emphasis placed on groundbreaking new features. The early seeding would apparently place 10.6 on track for a January ‘09 public launch, concurrent with Apple’s annual Macworld Expo. This will be Apple’s first Intel-only operating system, placing another nail in the PowerPC coffin.

hoping that they throw in ZFS boot support. If it happens I will most certainly cave and buy an apple.

somehow I just don’t see this one happening just yet… but then again 10.5 has been out since October… and its typically 1.5-2 years between releases… so this could be on the typical schedule… that said… I have a feeling the big release will be more iPhone junk and the SDK for it, also maybe more web-related stuff, I heard .Mac was down, maybe prepping for new stuff, iPhone friendly web apps developer tools? I’m too lazy to really guess… I just watch/read the news afterwards.

BTW, I us Mac OS X because its a superior OS with a lot of power and ease of use, not because I’m some “fanboy” (derogatory) who likes “crapple” or the “crapintosh” (sophmoric play on words). I’ve use Ubuntu… it isn’t ready for primetime. The things Linux geeks get wrong is that their OS is designed for Linux users not for the common user, video editors, small business (like mine), photographers, musicians, etc.

    very well put Onyx.

I can see them seeding the early build but not making a big announcement. And I would be interested in the ZFS boot as well Randy.

I’m glad this isn’t for PPC. Leopard is slow as it is on a 1,5GHz G4. This would probably crawl.

Gal, you continue with the linux story about OSX but its not true. If you do not know the difference between UNIX / FreeBSD and Linux then you are as dumb as you sound.

Galvatron shows just how big of an idiot he is with every post. He feels the need to comment on everything and he’s usually always wrong. He rarely even manages to piece together a coherent sentence.

It isn’t just Apple users who appreciate a good GUI. Most people, even the real geeks (which you are not) don’t want to type out a freaking command line just to load or eject a CD Rom drive. You think that because you can mount a disc drive with a command line makes you some kind of hacker? You are most likely a Script Kiddie. (Google it so you’ll know what I mean)

That being said, why do you just STFU for a change? Detest isn’t the only one here hatin’ your ass…

Nonsense. The only update we MIGHT see is 10.5.4, to coincide (perhaps) with this update to .mac.

Galvatron: I know all about Linux and it’s various GUI’s. I was responding to your statement that Mac users only liked pretty GUI’s. I was pointing out that it isn’t only Mac users that like to use GUI’s. Try and keep up…

Also, what kind of alias is “Galvatron” for a little girl?
