HTC announces HTC Touch Pro

You might know it as the HTC Raphael, but from now on, it’s official, and officially the Touch Pro. More or a less a slide-out QWERTY version of the HTC Touch Diamond, the Touch Pro improves on some of the Touch Diamond’s specs. Here we’ll find a 1350mAh battery with up to 8 hours of talk time, 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera, GPS, HSDPA 7.2 and HSUPA connectivity. Sadly, it’s not a quad-band EDGE or tri-band UMTS device, with North American versions coming “later in the year.” Hit the jump for the full specs on the Touch Pro and a couple images.

- Size: 102 x 51 x 18.05mm
- Weight: 165 g
- Connectivity: WCDMA / HSPA: 900/2100MHz. HSDPA 7.2 Mbps and HSUPA

- Internal memory: 512 MB flash, 288 MB RAM

Q1: is this the next version of tytn or will there be a tytn III
Q2: can someone explain what “it’s not a quad-band EDGE or tri-band UMTS device” means. what the disadvantage would be compared to the iphone 3g and blackberry bold and which countries would it not work in.
thanks.

Too bad Apple won’t make an iphone model with a slide out keyboard. Great looking phone, will replace my kaiser rather nicely.

Really nice looking phone. My only problem is that the screen isn’t centered when using the keyboard. It’s kind of a pet peeve, but they could’ve moved the HTC logo above the screen so it would be lower, and more centered when you use the keyboard.

But you know, slick as this is, the Tilt … tilts, so this seems to be trading tilting for slicker looks and a VGA screen.

The RAM is now a whopping 288MB!!! And with 512 MB ROM and support of MicroSD. And with TV-OUT. This may well be the best smartphone of the year.

I am getting this phone. No doubt about it.

“Battery: 1350 mAh”
oh boy, I hope hey did some magic with the chips inside, otherwise all those wonderful features will have a rather short lifespan.

Any thoughts about why they switched the slider to be left-handed? (or is that right-handed, either way, its opposite of the Mogul)

1) I doubt this is an Tytn III. Looks like they’ve made so many upgrades they just changed the model altogether
2) Quad band Edge is 2G or 2.5G technology that runs on the 850/900/1800/1900 bands. This phone only has the 900mhz band for EDGE.
Tri-band UMTS is 3G service that runs on 3 bands. As you can see this phone only use 1 3G band 2100 mhz. Not sure if 3G runs on that 900 band in Europe. I know there was talk of opening it up to 3G last year. That would make this a 2 band 3G phone.
As far as countries go forget it here in the U.S. we use 850/1900 bands, which the phone has neither. But the 2100 band may only be compatible with Europe and not with the new small spectrum T-mobile has in the U.S. along with their 1700mhz band in the U.S.

Very sexy machine!
The only draw back for me is the screen size.

This will replace my HTC Hermes. The tilt wasn’t enough of a improvement, but this phone will be a nice catch…if it comes to AT&T, it’ll be right around the time my contract is up.

that keyborad reminds me of my old 8125’s and i dont like the number keys on top row because it is more difficult to type the numbers when you hold ‘ctrl’.
i like 8525 and at&t tilt’s keyboard better because it is much easier to type the #s in my opinion.

I dont see how that is even thick, a sidekick lx is freaking thick. That looks sexy as hell.
Can’t believe we gotta untill like after summer. ARGHHH F?@k…. I guess they wanna give the TYTN II at least one year running then to replace it fast. I disagree, that crap off the market and the HTC Touch Pro on as soon as possible with all the gripes everyone is having with it.. If only one man really did have control over the business instead of a million shareholders……

This phone is announced at T-mob UK and will be called T-mobile MDA vario IV so basically will replace vario III.
Does that mean it will replace TyTN 2, in a way, yes.
For the slider to open left, it used to be so with original TyTN and I guess people complained about the TyTN 2 where it was on the right.
Personally, much prefer the left.
T-mob UK says end of Q3 if not later …

Looks like HTC wants all their phones to look very much alike. The problems with this sucker are no 3G, and the batterery is WAY to small. I would gladly give some millimeters in thickness to get a better batterey, and 3G.
Just like Boy’s post the other day, WTF HTC?

A really thick phone, with a really non-widescreen display, running a slow GUI.
If you’re dying to get a WM phone, wait for the Xperia X1.
Otherwise, the supersonic HTC Dream and iPhone 3G are the obvious better options.

How is 1350mAh small? Compare it to most phones and it’s right there or better.

I like the touchFLO UI, it is clean and elegant. Smooth and Fluid. And the phone packs every features in a compact form factor. I would say it is probably the best smartphone of the year. Of course, Sony X1 is also right up there.
