Nokia E71 video walkthrough
You’ve been waiting and waiting, but finally, the wait is over. Check out our complete video walkthrough of the Nokia E71. We tried to get everything in including most of your reasonable questions that you left in the comments. As we told you, this thing is speedy and small! We even threw in the iPhone and Curve so you could really a size comparison. Now, who’s running out to buy this thing the first day it’s out?

Thank you very much for the video walk though. Not to nag or anything or me just being retarded but does it support skype ?
If ONLY it had a 3.5mm jack, I would snatch this up the first day it’s available!!
Thanks for the first *decent* review the e71.
So far, I see this as the current frontrunner choice in this summer’s BB Bold / iPhone2.0 / e71 race.
Great video walkthrough. I was confused to buy E61i or should i wait for E71. Now this video has made my mind up. I will wait for this one. Any idea when this is going to be launched? In India?
Too bad that it has 2.5 not a big of a suprise, but wouldnt mind 3.5 jack and full fp2 from N series and this would be superb.
Still this device will be mine…. that is after they ge it announced.
Is it to complicated and taken to much time to say yes or no whether it has an acceleration sensor?
I like this phone and I think addresses alot of the problems of the E61 and E62 but it still falls a little short of what I expected this time around from Nokia. I think they held back on this device on purpose because the E Series isn’t supposed to be better than the N Series and therefore Nokia probably has plans of releasing a beast of a phone that will really compete with the iPhone 2, Blackberry Bold, HTC Touch Diamond, and the Sony Xperia that are all coming out this year. Still, I’ll def be getting this hot little number when it comes out for AT&T because I’m not going to pay the retail price just to get it unlocked even though I know that is the better decision being a tech freak and all.
Thanks BG for a great walkthrough. I hope you have more walkthroughs for all new devices you cover in the future.
Oh and I’m feeling the custom “BGR” Curve…
Did colorware hook that up?
Still not a fan of Nokia devices…but I will say that E71 even made the curve look chubby
nice review. FYI: infrared is preferred over bluetooth in Japan and other parts of Asia.
Yes, YouTube pleeease if possible! My N95 is only v20.0.015 (you know, can’t play Flash 8 hence).
I think that Nokia is a little late in the game with this device..and it is not even out yet…
My opinion is that the E71 should’ve been out on the market months ago..Imean the market moves really fast and its more and more innovative. E71 brings nothing new except a stable device…they should price it right for that matter
Hi, first of all, my sincere thanks for this walktrough. Now there is something which does irritate me: you said, GPS works fine, it is the same as in Nokia N95…
There have been a number of tests in Germany reg. the N95, always the same negative remarks: GPS is sooooo slow, it takes up to 5 minutes to find any satellites, sometimes it does not find any at all..and there is obviously quite a number of difficulties when you try to use GPS being in a car..
Would you be so kind and check this matter regarding GPS again, it is one of the most important things for me..Thank you
@jo: GPS on my N82 takes only a few seconds to get a satellite fix. The latest firmware update adds A-GPS, which speeds things up a lot. Even works indoors now, albeit near a window. I think there’s an update for the N95 as well.
I’m EXTREMELY leary.. I’m using an iPhone now and had 2 Nokia’s before that. I love the features Nokia provide, but their firmware was terrible!
My suggestion to anyone is see if someone you know buys it and wait until they’ve used it for a few months. New Nokia’s always work great out of the box, but performance and stability degrade quickly, and often Nokia is slow with firmware updates/patches.
When the E65 and E61 came out everyone raved about them; however, now it’s a different story.
I was really excited about this phone until I saw the review. In watching it I came away not overwhelmed or blown away. In this day when everyone is pushing the woW factor in terms of innovation, this phone comes across as kind of old hat. Watching the demonstrator walk thru the User Interface left me with no great impression beyond the E61 I had. I know it is better and improved, but nothing overwhelming and groundbreaking. In watching all of the new phones coming to market and how they marry touch interface into their systems, it seemed pained to watch the navigation of the programs thru the Nokia interface. Seemed kind of antiquated.
A lot of the other manufacturers are really pushing the envelope in terms of innovation and I am a bit surprised to see Nokia coming out with just an extended improvement of the same old format and style.
WOW great video review BGR! I too am feeling that Colorware Curve!
Love the comment “where the F is that modes menu” lmao – if I heard it correctly! Really puts a human side to the things you guys do. Don’t change it!
Wow I was worried that this thing would be huge like the E61i, but its slimmer in width & thickness to the Curve :O ! I was hoping a photo comparison of (Width, Height, & thickness) vs the BB Bold.
Pretty odd how this STILL has IRDA. Wondering if some apps are for testing to connect to an RS232 IrDA adapter or something similar.
Some of the questions was not answered in the video. Has it 30 fps or not? TV Out? Im personally concerned about the smaller screen compared to E61i.
Hmm,
Could you try and take a picture of something other than a white background. I couldn’t tell if it “took” the picture as soon as you pressed it, as soon as the sound went off, or, like e61i, about half a second after the sound came. That was the biggest peeve of my e61i.
Good review.
*must resist buying anything until BG’s iPhone2 review*
thank you, Roy, good news. So I’ll wait for this nice toy patiently
“Get your backlight on!”
I’m thinking Srwilliams owns quite a few shares of Apple stock.
Thanks a lot!
Nokia has now published an xmlfile on its site with some specs (bluetooth profiles, video codecs, etc):
http://nds1.nds.nokia.com/uaprof/NE71-1r100.xml
(A)GPS on all Nokia devices I have used gets a fix within 30 secs, usually within 10. Only noobs generally moan about not being able to get a quick fix because 1) they are still on a very old firmware without AGPS 2) Can’t read the manual or know how to operate the phone properly.
yes, please youtube it, id like to watch this on my tytn.. =)
