I tried the HTC Touch pro, then the Diamond, then sent them both back and got the Treo 850. i love the Treo 850. I can’t speak about the older Treo models, but the 850 is a very nice PDA/PHone. I have a full service plan and it has Outlook push technology, Word, Excel, Power Point, GPS, Sprint TV, and much, much more. The voice prompting for high priority email is very nice. Batteyr life is very good and it charges from any standard USB port, even the one on my car stereo. I found assesories for it dirt cheap on Ebay. I ordered them for 5 other people in my comapny and all are very happy with it. I’ve sent 5 HTC touch phones back to Sprint. Only one person kept their Touch Diamond. When given both phones, after handling them and being told about the features of both, most people liked the Treo 850 better.

I, personally, had no issues with the Treo 750, and am waiting for the new version.

@jd of course it going to be carried by att which carrier in the us uses a gsm treo just att and some small carriers that dont really matter for a phone of this magnitude

I hope 850 has Palm OS and not windows. I want to be able to use qmobilsoft’s product callrec. It does not work with windows OS.

I’m not worried about the small amount of RAM just yet. There’s still time for them to slap in a larger chip…or maybe someone will come up with a mod.

The specs look good, honestly. Nothing trailblazing but hey, that’s a start. I heard the 850w should be released on Sprint first. Granted, Windows versions suck balls IMHO. Like other past ‘w’ devices, I bet my shorts there’ll be a ‘p’ version coming soon after.

Besides, I’m still waiting for that hell of long overdue Linux-based Palm OS… But let’s not put the bar too high with the folks at Sunnyvale. Again, with Palm, you gotta take things real slow. Sigh.

I’m pretty sure it will have at least 64mb, i remember when the 750 first came out, it was the only WM device that had the most available RAM after bootup. Palm treos have been very stable IMO.

The last time Palm put 32MB of RAM in a WinMobile device it was their first one, the Treo 700w and is SUCKED big time. The user was left with ~12MB of RAM to run apps.

Everyone thought surely Palm put 64MB in there, but truth be told, Palm has learned nothing in 2 years of losses in sales and market dominance. How the mighty have fallen.

32 MBs of RAM can’t be right. If it is then that’s a definite dealbreaker for me. I could live with the MicroSD slot behind the battery so long as it has SDHC support. It’s about time Palm included wi-fi support and ditched the need for the MiniSD wi-fi adapters and aGPS sweetens the deal. a 2 MP camera is icing on the cake.

BG – could you do a side-by-side comparison of the 850 and the E71 ? Different OS and touchscreen vs. not, but otherwise, the hardware is pretty similar and I’ll likely be choosing between them. Thanks!

If only Palm would learn the lesson of hardware/software integration that everyone who holds a leadership position in the smartphone market has been operating under for the past 2+ years. The user-experience, in simplifying methods and steps, with a higher degree of elegance and sophistication, is what is expected. -sigh-

No wonder, even with (and possibly because of) these strategic leaks, that Palm is a solid “sell”.

I like that it has wifi, and Micro-USB is cool. but MicroSD under the battery? that’s a Deal breaker. I’m one of the (relatively) few people that has more than one card and swaps it out.
