Huge line forms at 5th avenue Apple Store, everyone else scratches their heads in disbelief

We love our gadgets as much, if not more, than the next guy, but this has to be one of the most ridiculous things we’ve seen in quite some time. There’s currently a massive line forming in front of the 5th Avenue Flagship Apple Store. According to reports on the ground, the crowd is forming in anticipation of the new 2nd Generation iPhone launch. Cool, but aren’t you guys a bit early? Yeah. We thought so. While the 3G iPhone is certainly coming soon, there’s nothing whatsoever to indicate that today is the drop date. Sure, Apple might drop a huge surprise on us, but we’re guessing that the 60-some-odd folks in line are either casualties of a successful prank, foreigners looking for a “true American experience”, or just plain confused. Sheep mentality is a funny thing, folks.

If supply for the initial iPhone launch told us anything, there will be plenty to go around.

Besides not as many will be buying this one (at least in the US) because so many just got into their current iPhone.

Oh well, at least I get to walk by my local Apple store and make fun of those losers.

These lines form outside of the 5th Ave store whenever it gets busy, they do crowd control.. this isn’t for the 3G iPhone

Used to work at GM building, there’s frequently a line outside during busy hours, as Apple does do crowd control. It’s a very popular location, since it’s located smack dab in the middle of the Madison Avenue and 5th Avenue shopping district, next to FAO Schwartz, Tiffany’s, Barney’s, Crate & Barrell, Bergdorff Goodman. It might be the best shopping location in the country, and the store is very inviting to the eye.

I find it funny that the sheep in the comments are simply following the tone of the story rather than reading the comments from the people who are actually familiar with this store….

its normal for this store, sure it has to do with fore code and store capacity.

Hey MS fanboys. It’s not necessary to bad mouth Apple at every opportunity. Especially when it has nothing to do with the story. Wanna talk about overrated? Vista. What a turd in the punch bowl that is. You are so brainwashed most of you use it even though MS all but admitted it stinks.

All you fanboys go listen to your brown, chunky, dookie colored Zunes.

Oh, and BTW. That IS crowd control. Not “sheep” camping out. If they were, they’d had folding chairs, umbrellas, supplies… These people are just going in to replace their M$hit products…

I happen to work for one of those pesky, multi-national computer companies, you know… the ones that support that damned Windows Vista.

Want a tip? Here’s one: When consulting some of the employees I train at a local Best Buy, I came to find them getting an aisle for their own Apple Store. None of the employees liked the idea, mainly because people like YOU are the types of customers they’ll have to deal with.

Go jump in front of a bus. Maybe your fancy iPod will save you. ;)

oh people like me actually dont have to worry about my OS f-ing up my system and actually CARE about what they are computing on. People like me actually have legitimate questions about what my computer can do and have concern about what they are buying. Big-box stores dont give the enthusiasm for their products like Apple stores do.

oh, also, if i need to get my computer fixed i know i can trust that the repair gets done fast and i know it will be working again when i get it back.

Well, Vista is a turd in the punchbowl and OSX is better in many ways, but I just can’t trust a companyb that sells a wireless device and then tells users what carrier they can use it on. That’s neither consumer friendly or innovative.
