T-Mobile launches Nokia XpressMusic 5310

T-Mobile USA and Nokia have just launched the Nokia XpressMusic 5310, which is the successor to the Nokia 5300. The slider candybar handset sports a number of mid-range features, including a 2MP camera with video support, FM radio, QVGA screen, 3.5mm headphone jack, and a bit more. Sadly, the handset is a tri-band EDGE phone, so anyone with aspiration of taking T-Mobile’s new 3G network for a spin might want to look elsewhere. The phone does come with a 1GB microSD card out of the box, and the handset supports cards up to 4GB. To drum up some attention for an otherwise mediocre launch, Nokia and T-Mobile are holding a contest for new 5310 owners, offering a depressingly boring range of prizes, including free music and ringtone downloads, and a grand prize of a $100 Ticketmaster gift card. Yay! The phone will be available starting May 28th in three exclusive colors, black/red, black/purple and black/orange, for the low, low price of $49.99 with a 2-year contract. Hawla.

“The slider handset sports a number of mid-range features…”
Is the picture the wrong phone, does it slide to reveal a qwerty keyboard, or is this the wrong description? It’s a good looking phone, and I like the thinness, but if I were to get a phone like this I’d either want a normal slider style (hidden number pad) or a slider revealing a qwerty keyboard.
This is a candybar phone guys…… the 5610 is the slider.
also, both of these phones have been delayed your not going to find these in stores until next month. Heck its not even on t-mobile.com
FM Radio, what’s that?
So wait, Karp knows enough to make lame jokes about the phone and its launch, but can’t actually get the vital stats right (the whole slider thing)?
BGR is great when it breaks news first. It sucks when it dips into Gizmodo territory and puts snarky comments above getting the facts right.
Not delayed, the 5610 may be, but this is coming out on time. I think the 3.2 meg cam on the 5610 got it delayed somehow, just a huntch, as it would have been the first over 2 meg camera on tmob.
Carry on.
Could the Nokia 5610 have been delayed to put 3G in it, since the phone overseas is a 3G phone?
So I guess this is the first phone being released on the roadmap?
well considering i work at a retail store and we dont have it in stock yet……we always get new products a week in advance of launch. its delayed.
Just so everyone knows (everyone who works in a retail store *should* know this), the 5310 (bar phone) will launch in ONE WEEK, on May 28th. It was just announced today.
The slider cousin with the 3.2mp cam, the 5610, is delayed but should be released sooner rather than later in the summer.
it has been out in Europe and Asia since late oct 07. i have bought it for over half a year…it really really rocks! it delivers truly superb sound which almost matches what you can get from a top-end stand-alone media player. moreover, 3.5mm is a big plus here as you can plug any headphones you want without adapter required. it also has great 16M-color display which offers impressively smooth colors even though it is a music-focused phone.
with average usage, it will last up to 1 week (really) per charge…music playback time is also good up to 18-20 hours!
with opera mini 4.1 it is your portable web-serving device as well…you can surf up to3-4 without problem (via EDGE).
this is a pretty neat little phone. i just played with one today.
The phone will launch next week… t mo had a launch party last nite in NYC for the phone, even though it was poorly attended and they where being stingy with the phones for a media event… I did manage to get one… the phone is as u see it
We got our dummy phones in the store today…
The one thing that really strikes me about the phone is it’s size. It’s SMALL! I have pretty big hands, and two-handed txt’ing would be pretty difficult because the phone is so little.
It’s VERY thin and narrow. Holding it up to your ear on a call, it feels like there’s barely anything there.
To be honest, I wasn’t expecting much out of this phone, but the tiny size really won me over (well, that and the music capabilities). I was looking forward to the 5610 because of the improved camera, but it’s much thicker, and at only $49 (with no mail-in-rebate on a 2-yr contract), this 5310 is looking pretty attractive.
Hello ,
Is Tmobile going to launch the nokia 5310 on wednesday 5/28? If so according to the internet the colors are black/purple;red/black;orange/black? Has anyone heard anything else. I am looking to switch from AT&T to tmobile
