Just a guess, but the “Goldfinger” could just be a special edition version of the Bold to coincide with the next Bond flick. I doubt that RIM would bank the actual name of a device that will live in the market for 2-3 years that is so narrowly defined.

Keep in mind that this may be TIM’s assigned codename for the device. There are two ways I can think of that this might happen.

For some device launches or initial discussions with carriers, RIM might issue multiple codenames so that if a leak to someone like BGR occurs, it can be traced to a specific partner. This “multiple codenames” strategy seems to be standard practice at other manufacturers, including Apple. It can be as simple as a misspelling (eg: as in the case of the Komet/Comet) or a completely different name (thesaurus definitions for the same word.)

Carriers will sometimes also independently assign codenames to devices before launch when communicating with their own partners and dealers.

Seems like a bad idea to use names that are copywrited/trademarked. Just means the company will jack up the price to cover all the royalty fees.

Personally I wont use the name for the 9000 anyway.
