Rogers June launches: BlackBerry Bold, HTC Shift, ROKR E8, and more

One of Roger ninjas hit us up to give us the breakdown of mobile device launches for the month of June. It’s a pretty impressive line-up if you ask us. As usual, dates do change, but this is what we got so far:

  • BlackBerry Bold launch time frame is June 9th-29th. (we don’t have an exact date just yet)
  • The HTC Shift will launch on Rogers within the next 10 days. Rumored date is May 22nd, and it’s going for $1,500 on a 3-year agreement.
  • The Motorola E8 will be making the trek up north for a June launch. No specific launch date or pricing info yet.
  • The Motorola ROKR U9 which as we’re told was supposed to be launched in May, will now be launched in June on Fido.
  • Motorola’s W755r (same exact model AT&T has) will also be coming to Rogers in June.
  • We’ve also been told Rogers will not be getting the BlackBerry 8320. They are sticking to the BlackBerry 8120 and BlackBerry 8820 for their UMA action.

I think we’ve about covered it for now. Also, the BlackBerry Bold date seems a tad early, so we’d guess it would be launched towards the tail-end of that timeframe. AT&T should either launch before that date, or soon after as we can’t imagine Rogers getting it first. But that’s our own prediction and not based off actual AT&T internal information. Who’s excited out there

If I was RIM, I’d launch the Bold on the same day as the iPhone launches…or maybe they are already planning on doing that, which would explain the rather long time frame for expected launch.

why would RIM wants to compete directly with apple like that. i think apple will win. the UI in apple is more friendly than blackberry, so they need to launch the bold first.

It would be better for the Bold to launch first because it will be reviewed when it comes out and everyone will love it. Then, when the new iPhone comes out, it will get reviewed all over again vs. the iPhone = free marketing.

I am excited, though would like to see an E71 in the lineup. I plan to have either the new Bold or the E71 as my next phone.

Funny thing with Rogers, all the things I like about Rogers have nothing to do with them - but more to do with GSM.

This is great news since AT&T would have no reason other than iP2 to hold up the Bold. Ready and waiting to get one on launch day, the iP2 is nothing I would want to own.

It’s Rogers, expect prices to be stupid, with 3 year contracts. But impressive launch nonetheless.

2 asides: Could the Rogers ninjas leak a few future devices over at Fido, and does RIM not use Rogers as their test network for GSM devices, making it totally possible to see a Bold release on Rogers before ATT?

you masterfull ninja is here. As far as im hearing. from the people “above” the release date is sticking on june 15th through premiere att order site and buisness customers with a full release june 21st to all customers online and telesales. in stores the following week. june 29th.
see what att is doing because this will inter-fear with there iphone release scedualed for june 28th. there blasting off the iphone at consumers and the bold at professionals. when we all know the bold is for both :)

Can you get your ninjas to find out when Rogers will align their data plans to be more reasonable? HSDPA is useless with a 4 MB/$25 plan.

Why would you (BG) think that Rogers wouldn’t be able to get the Bold before AT&T? They got the N95-4, K850i among others first. Let’s not forget that RIM is Canadian.

The Nokia e71 is supposed to launch on Fido in the third quarter of this year. (According to internal rumorus it’s passing every test they put it through wonderfully)I can only assume it would be launched on Rogers if it’s launched on Fido.

On another note, the Blackberry Bold is set to be released in the last two weeks of June.

My carrier is BELL MOBILITY but even so I think is’s great that ROGERS will be launching the BlackBerry BOLD sometime in June/08!! This will allow Canadians to get their hands on this fantastic device.

And in due course, Bell Mobility will no doubt be launching the ‘Bold’ when RIM produces A CDMA version.

RIM’s headquarters is in Waterloo, Ontario; it would only make sense for this phone to debut on a Canadian network, i.e Rogers Wireless, if it doesnt that will be irritating.

When has RIM ever launched a device on Roger’s network first? That pretty much answers that question … Big Markets = First To Get Device … Oh an Why would the data plans change? Roger’s has a cash cow!

I spent too much time on the weekend calling 38 different Rogers retail stores across the country to see what dates I would get. Believe it or not, 2 of those said ‘it was already out’ but the majority all said September. Not one mentioned June or July.

I am on Bell Mobility… I have gone to two stores and contacted them via website email and not one person knows when the BOLD will come to Bell. What’s up with that? I guess they want to sell their existing devices.. But I hate uninformed sales people.
