New Jawbone Headset Gets Official
Will wonders never cease? As was the buzz around town, Aliph has made their Jawbone successor official yesterday. Dubbed simply "New Jawbone", Aliph’s new bluetooth headset is available immediately from the Jawbone website and through AT&T. What is the wonder we referred to in the first sentence above? No, it’s not that the New Jawbone is 50% smaller in size than the original. No, it’s not that Jawbone now refers to its noise cancellation technology as "NoiseAssassin". The wonder is that Jawbone somehow managed to make the new model even uglier than the original. Astounding. Don’t get us wrong, the first-generation Jawbone headset was a marvel; one of the few products we’ve come across in recent history with function that matched the pre-release hype. It was just so… ugly. The new model seemingly takes its design cues from the pick up trucks typically found in the parking lot of any local dive bar. The body of the Jawbone pays homage to tacky diamond plated tonneau covers while the ear loop is apparently styled in line with after market leather seat covers, complete with contrast stitching. As a launch promotion, we definitely recommend that Aliph toss some samples out to an eager crowd on 80s night at Ultra. How cool will the middle-aged half naked mothers-of-two look when they’re rocking out to Poison with these puppies hanging from their ears? Teased hair flowing… Diamond plating sparkling… Pure magic. Ok, enough. Word on the street is that BG is preparing a Jawbone giveaway of the new model, so check for that soon!

“How cool will the middle-aged half naked mothers-of-two look when they’re rocking out to Poison with these puppies hanging from their ears? Teased hair flowing…”
Someone is getting a little too much into this? I think the smaller size should help, as long as the reviews are decent. We shall see indeed.
too bad you can’t say their product doesn’t work.
I like the bold design and lack of any logos.
But as a middle-aged businessman in a stuffed suit, it wouldn’t work for me, but I’m a pretty small segment of the population these days.
it works dosn’t it thatsall tht matters zach this makes you soun sm snottty fasshion maizine editor beutys in the eye of the beholder.
you’re trying a little too hard there buddy.. i think it actually looks pretty decent.. gladly give up my old jawbone for it..
I received a press kit Wednesday 5/13/06 with 2 Jawbones. WOW!
There not half as bad when you have em’ in person. The fact that its about 50 percent smaller alone should score some points. It comes in a clear plastic see-thru case, did you know theres a white version available?
BTW did you guys call into Stamford, ct 5/16/08 back to back asking about these? :-]
Is that Chun Li’s cousin from Street Fighter, “Ugh Li?”
I’ve got the huge Jawbone myself, and it’s quite peculiar in shape and looks, but GOT DAMN this thing is Ugh Li.
I have to agree with the folks who have said it is not that ugly in person. would I have rather they make it in a plain smooth black finish? Sure, but having seeing one in person the look of it would not stop me from wearing it. If BG had posted a picture showing actual size, instead of enlarging the image 200%, you hardly would have noticed the “interesting” design choice.
I will have to agree with Rob, don’t let the enlarged picture scare you off. I picked mine up yesterday from the AT&T store. The design really isn’t that noticeable, what is REALLY noticeable to me is the size. I had the original Jawbone for a year, and putting the new one on yesterday did feel weird. It felt like it would easily fall off since the ear loops are different, but in actuality it stays on like a glove. No matter how hard you try to shake your head and wiggle it off.
Great job ALIPH!!
I just got mine today and so far I’m pretty satisfied with the performance, the people on the other end of my calls say that my voice sounds cleared and nearer to the headset, also much improved noise reduction over the last one. Also the call volume is much improved the last model. My one complaint is that I don’t like the new earloop design, doesn’t feel as snug and secure as the last one. Good thing is the old earloops seems to fit on the new jawbone.
It’s not that bad in person I agree. It’s small, quite a bit nicer than the original. Plus unless you have a bright light shining from an extreme angle with 10x magnification (I.E. the picture here) the diamond-plating look isn’t that dramatic. Still plain would have been nice.
I absolutely agree that the silver version is on the top 10 list of ugliest headsets on the market. The black’s not quite so bad, but it won’t win any beauty contests. But so what? I can’t wait for mine to arrive! Should be here on Tuesday…
Can you say “That would go great with a Touch Diamond”?
I’ve had it for about two days now, I love it. The design isnt actually that bad looking in person, you really cant see the diamond pattern from far away. It’s probably the best quality headset I’ve ever owned.
I got mine today here in Atlanta. I called most of the metro locations around 11am and not one of them had it. Called 2 hours later and most had at least 10. I had the jawbone 1 for 2 weeks and hated the part that went around my ear. It was so big I could not wear sunglasses with it, unless I wanted to look like Dumbo. I changed over and tried the moto crystal and the size was great, but everyone I talked to could not understand 60% of everything i said.
When I saw the there was the new Jawbone I had to get it due to the size. I have used it a on a few call tonight and tested it with Goog411. Usually if they can understand me in various situation’s then it passes the voice test. Tomorrow will be the full day of testing.
In regards to the size, shape, etc. Its way nicer and lighter then Ver 1. The Diamond cover feels fine and looks fine, although I am not sure how strong it will be.
I;ll keep you all posted.
Side note, from what I have been reading, it seems as though these were not all released at the same time and was dependent on location. Most stores had them in the back but they were not put out on the floor.
Yeah, it’s ugly. The Jawbone is also the only earpiece out there worth paying more than $2 for – because it works. The rest are garbage. When I wear v1 out I’ll get this, even if the only model is pink with purple polka-dots.
I just ordered mine from horizonwireless
http://www.horizonwirelessonline.com/cat/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=538
total was $109 + $30 express shipping
can’t wait to get it…
Wow that was a totally pointless and worthless review matter fact that wasnt even a review. you failed to point out any type of flaws the jabone has or might have and i doubt that you even own one your self to even present a decent review. Stick to jacking off and looking at playboy mags buddy. that might be something you would be more successful at.
I’ve tried the jawbone…. in a convertable anyways….it’s no better for speaking than anything else…It does sound loud enough in my ear that it rings if I talk too long on it, but no one can hear what I’m saying…they just hear windnoise….Even with the top up, the car is too loud for this thing. NEXT…..
