Sidekick Gecko browser surfaces
Not a whole lot to go on here, but we have confirmed that the Sidekick Gecko is in the wild, and that the browser is fully functional. The Sidekick Gecko, if you remember, is one of two new Sidekick models rumored to be coming out this July. The phone is supposed to be a replacement for the recently-deceased Sidekick iD, and should arrive with a Sharp Aquos-influenced screen, 2 MP camera with video, interchangeable bumpers, and more. We’re tentatively looking at a July 30th release, but we’ll hit you with more info as soon as we get it.

UPDATE: Sorry for the false alarm here folks, but it looks like we may have jumped the gun. Several astute readers have pointed out that the screen shot above is a calling card of the Gecko web browser engine, used by Danger for all of their back-end web proxy duties. As such, there’s nothing in the shot itself that points to the new handset.
I don’t personally like the Sidekick. And this is definitely not a good sign of things to come…
Lol, I really feel like BG just sits there with all these pre-release devices, teasing everyone with his ‘found’ screenshots. In reality he probably just decided to stir things up and take one from a device sitting on his desk.

I wouldn’t trust a sk on a paypal website…sk’s haven’t been the most trustworthy phone in my experience. It may turn off half way through a money transfer and mess up my whole life!

Doesn’t anyone recall the BROWSER called GECKO? I think that’s the name of the rendering engine inside firefox.
So if a browser identifies itself as GECKO it might just be using the Gecko render engine.
This doesn’t necessitate the existence of a device called Gecko.
If someone ran a browser ID javascript and saw browser = mozilla, does that mean there’s a computer coming called that? No. Come on BG…

um the name gecko has nothing to do with the browser. the name had been reported for awhile. this is just the browser running on sed phone. damned people love to bash for no reason. and by the way, if you don’t like sk’s fine, go buy another phone then. this phones not for you because your probably not its target market so who cares anyway
