Opera Mini 4.1 hits the streets
Over the last several years, Opera Mini has emerged as the browser of choice for anyone not running an iPhone. The software’s combination of extreme compatibility, stability, and speed have propelled it to the forefront of the mobile browsing world, with many companies now choosing to pre-install the software on their handsets, often at the expense of the OS manufacturer’s intended browser. Never resting for too long, Opera has released a new revision to their mobile browser, with Opera Mini 4.1 hitting the virtual streets today. Among the improvements include:
- Faster Browsing
- Text Search
- Suggestive URL
- File Upload Support
- Offline Viewing
All told, a worthy upgrade, and one we would suggest downloading at your earliest convenience.

Skyfire! FTW. It’s buggy but it’s better than OM4.

I like Skyfire as well and think it’s a tad better but it doesn’t zoom nearly as fast as OM4.1.

If Skyfire added the ability to download, it would really knock OM4 out the box. Oh well, I use a mix of Opera Mobile and Skyfire. Hopefully by 2009, I can ditch my notebook for a cell phone, excepty for large Word documents and encoding movies to work on my cell phone.

I continue to be frustrated and perplexed that I can’t use this on my Blackberry Pearl on T-Mobile. Supposedly it has to do with what rate plan you’re on - which is wack.

What? As long as you have a data package you should be good to go.
Have you set up the APN in your ‘Berry settings?
Go to Settings -> Advanced -> TCP -> APN -> wap.voicestream.com -> Save

I tried it on my Nokia N95-1 and it totally sucked. Slow, unresponsive buttons (had to hit some twice) and an incoming call caused my phone to shut down when I ended the call. Uninstalled immediately!

For you to get Opera Mini to work in Tmobile you have to go to settings/options>>Advanced Options>>TCP>>Type “wap.voicestream.com” without the quotes, then save…then remove the battery from the BB. leave it off for about 30 seconds, put battery back in, voila opera mini should work.

TMO has Pearl 8100 and Perl 8120, not Pearl 8130 (Sprint and VZW).
Every time I’ve tried opera Mini on my VZW 8830 has been an exercise in frustration. And I’m not trying it again until it can be the BB OS “default browser”. If it won’t launch by clicking a URL in email or SMS or BBMessenger or whatever, its less than useless.

If you want this to work on your 8100, you only need to do two things:
1. Change your TCP settings, which John and j have already stated above.
2. Download the UNSIGNED version of the application (not Thwate or Verizon). The download option will say, “Download Opera Mini! (US English, No signature).
