T-Mobile phone launch delays

We just got word that some of T-Mobile’s upcoming phones are delayed or scrapped altogether. The Nokia 5310 Xpress Music handset which replaces the current Nokia 5300 is now slated for release in early June. It will launch in red, orange, and purple colors. The more higher-end Nokia 5610 Xpress Music has also had a launch delay and is set to launch in early July. If there was one device that was 86′d, which manufacturer would it be? Motorola, silly! Their Motorola Z6w (Z6 with Wi-Fi) was targeted for a June 23rd launch, but has now been cancelled. This is said to be due to early testing issues. Any questions? No? Class dismissed!

Well, at least we can be thankful that they didn’t release a product that (apparently) is not ready to launch.

What the? Here in Australia the 5310 has been out so long it has just gone prepaid for $229 and the Z6 has been discontinued. We are getting ready for the launch of the Nokia 6220 classic (5MP, GPS), the Samsung G800 and LG’s KF600 and KF700 with Secret (KF750)

Not that I care about any of these phones but TMO is really starting to piss me off. Kinda makes me think they are just pocketing all their earnings without giving any back. When other carriers were busy investing in 3G TMO was leveraging their incumbent EDGE and using it as a cash cow. Now, they won’t even fork up the loot to get the 9000, E71 and lets not even bring the iPhone into question. I am at the point where I may just drop the free ride I get with my company’s Enterprise plan to hook up some Bold Berry action. So enough of the rant-Wake up TMO!! You are missing the boat and its prime Regatta season.

Ariel, I don’t want to be a cheerleader for T-Mo but I don’t think that they were riding on the EDGE cash cow. They were the last in the game to get EDGE and now last to get 3G. What it seems is that they wait until prices fall before investing and then want some sort of return before moving on. I mean AT&T (pre Cingular merger) had EDGE in my city in late 2002, T-Mobile got it in late 2005. Not trying to justify it, but that is the reality of the situation.

T-Mobile barely existed until 2005 so I think that about sums up the reason for them being late in the game! From what I hear, we’ll be seeing some big releases from them in the future. They’re still a way smaller company than any of the others. Once they get their footing, I’m sure we can see them take off.

Not to mention how much cheaper their plans are! If anyone is riding any sort of cash cows, it’s Sprint and Verizon!

The Z6w (leaked at this very site as the “Motorola Marco”) actually looked pretty cool. Yeah, the RIZR is ancient and feels even moreso, but it’s still a thin, nice-looking slider - and T-Mobile’s HotSpot@Home line-up really needed some more fashionable phones. Oh well.
