Motorola L800t FCC Shots; Meh
We’re not sure this was any mystery, but Motorola appears to be using "familiar tactics" as far as upcoming devices are concerned. A few years ago Motorola issued something called a V3 RAZR. It was cool, it was thin and it was new. Shortly thereafter, a flurry of handsets began flying out of the Moto design labs. SLVR, RIZR, RAZR this and RAZR that, etc. Moto used the core design cues found on the RAZR and basically translated them to nearly every high-end handset it issued for a while. In fact, we’re still seeing similar handsets come through to this day. Next in line apparently, is the E8 ROKR design. The buttonless E8 design can be seen duplicated above on the upcoming L800t that we saw leaked a while back on the 2008 Motorola roadmap. The problem here? This new design isn’t popular. Yes it’s pretty cool, we’ll give them that, but it’s unproven to say the least. Isn’t it a bit soon to start the RAZR-esque redo of a redo of a redo loop?

I used to be a huge fan of motorola products…
They just stopped innovating, and the K1 was the last Motorola for a while.
Motorola always seemed to be committed to some important things though.
1.) signal handling
2.) sound quality
It is those 2 qualities that kept me as a moto customer.
I have completely lost interest in their products. Nokia, Apple, and Blackberry are the mobile innovators these days.

I’ve had three Moto’s now and since call quality and signal are the most important things for me, i’ll stick with them. I’m assuming this model will run on Linux… I just hope the US carriers will finally get some Linux-based Moto’s.

Ever since the struck gold with the RAZR and sold a ton. Every phone that has since come from them looks the same. Same keypad, same finish and I bet it has the same shitty UI. Useless company! They are on their way out. I give them 5 years tops!

OK first off Heathen,
The real innovators go more like apple (only for its intro of a full touchscreen device that boosted other companies to try and make something of the same thing), then you get HTC since they have the absolute best phones out there (I don’t give a damn what anybody says), then you can give out a BlackBerry, and throw Nokia an award because their phones are the shit (not really innovative, just the shit.) Technically HTC should be first because they actually had the first full touchscreen phone on the market even if it did have 7 buttons being send/end and a 4 way navigator with ok key.
DukeL,
I doubt Zack gives a shit about Moto not showing any love at CTIA since that is one damn sure way for a company to kill themselves when they don’t get the chance to create hype every way possible. When you don’t let people know you’ve got (really shitty) some ok phones coming out that all look the same then they can’t sell them in the first place.

What I REALLY wonder is why oh why Motorola send a product made for China (it has TD-SCDMA, their homegrown 3G standard, after all) to the FCC.

Guys,
I have followed MOT for a few years already. They invented the Cell phone, they made it wearable and later change the whole thing with the RZOR. Whether we like it or not, they have and will lead the cell phone industry. All manufacturers (except NOK) tries to imitate. NOK’s look so much alike their own devices from 8 years ago. We need to thank MOT for the designs we see today, otherwise we would be carrying one-pound devices.

Oh Please, whoever said the Motorola KRZR was an innovation, it was in fact the handset that DOOMED Motorola.
If you actually observe WHY they designed and built the KRZR, u will see similarities in Roadmap with what they did way back in 1998 when they launched the StarTAC.
After the death of the very Chief Marketing Officer who created the RAZR V3 in 2005, Motorola stopped creating visionary products.
Instead of focusing on developing far better products and heeding the advice of its previous Marketing Officer to focus on Social Networking, they pursued a Roadmap similar to what the RAZR was to the StarTAC.
The KRZR Roadmap basically followed the V-Series which was launched after the StarTAC.
Motorola’s new marketing department screwed up, insisting the KRZR was going to repeat the same success strategy as the V-Series.
As a result they pumped in millions and millions into making the KRZR a flagship for 2006, including the development of similar products of the same footprint like the RIZR / W-Series products which failed Disastrously.
What they should have done was to release the RAZR2 V8/V9 during 2005-2006 instead of 2007.
Basically the company tarnished the image of the RAZR from what was the beacon of hope, it has now become a Tragedy.

@druu
That up 571% for the RIM is split adjusted. That’s how Bloomberg works.
But up 1,713% would be nice.
I hope people understand how big +517% is. This company has done an amazing job. My physical trainer now has a BB. (don’t laugh, I can’t afford the guy, but I box him once a week)
