Sprint’s BlackBerry 8330 finally available this Friday

We’ve got a ton of tips over the past couple days surrounding the BlackBerry Curve’s debut on Sprint. Most if not all of those pointed to an official May 9th release date. Here’s a flyer detailing the release date, handset pricing, and specs. The no contract price of the Curve is $599.99! Don’t get too scared, though. If you’re signing up for a 2-year agreement with Sprint (don’t get us started) you can snag one of these CrackBizzles for $179.99 after instant and mail-in rebates. Happy Sprinting. Larger shot after the jump.

Thanks, Optimus, and everyone else that hit us up!

Can you hear me now Verizon.

    GPS enabled

It’s not locked to some stupid proprietary GPS application that sucks compaired to other GPS software. On top of that it’s not aGPS.

    BigA,
Are you saying Sprint’s Curve is not locked to a GPS app, or Verizon’s is? Either way, you still have to pay the $10 monthly fee to use it, correct?

BigA: You said the GPS is not locked to some stupid proprietary GPS application. What other GPS mapping applications are available to the Blackberry device besides the Blackberry Maps, which for navigation, is fairly useless. Does Garmin, or TomTom, or any other company make a true turn by turn, 2D or 3D maps for the Blackberry devices? I had the Curve with AT&T, and it’s GPS working with Telenav, which was crap on EDGE, but there were no other choices…

Sprint phones use Telenav as well. It works really good with EVDO! I have it on my pearl and am very satisfied.

Evilhomer - Sprint has never locked out their GPS as far as I know. I have an 8703e and use GPS with Infospace without too much fuss. If only Google Maps supported internal GPS on the CDMA devices, I’d be in heaven.

Why does Sprint charge 600 for a new phone without a contract while Verizon charges 319.00?

    What’s your issue with ATT?

I am thinking of throwing up the finger to Sprint and going with ATT.

No one working for Sprint has a clue!!!! Talking to all of them, CS, sales. etc. They all say June 1st and I talked to at least 5 different people. One lady asked me how did I hear about the phone cause she doesn’t even know what all the phone offers and she was working for retentions!!! Has to be the worst company ever.

The problem with ATT is that if you are in a rural area you probably won’t have any cell service period. At least with CDMA if you are out of a major city or north or south of a major interstate you will not be able to make a call. I would switch to ATT in a minute if they had better coverage outside of metropolitan areas, but I don’t want me or the rest of my family to be in an emergency situation and not be able to call for help. That is the biggest problem with ATT.

I am thinking about switching to ATT as well, but there service is so expensive. $99 for unlimited calls, then $30 for unlimited data, then $5 for unlimited text.

what a rip off, i can get all that with Sprint for $99, and way better coverage. But then Sprint rips you off on the phones.

I think that I change phones enough to where I mind as well just pay the additional 35 and go with ATT. But thats not happening until they get better 3G phones. Edge is for the birds!

$599.99!?! With all of the financial troubles that they are in right now, they think an existing customer mid-contract will pay them $599.99? It’s almost like they want people to pay the ETF and go somewhere else to get it cheaper…. Once again very disappointed in them. I guess they have to get that 10M back from VZW somehow.

Um…you are looking at VZW’s contract price. what you pay for out with out a contract is usually a MSRP.

I agree - this “flyer” looks extremely unofficial… I highly doubt it’ll be coming out tomorrow. EVERYONE that I talk to speaks of the end of may/early June. I’d be very surprised if this launches tomorrow.

    LOL @ Andy

Way better coverage.. sure.. I was a Sprint customer for 7 yrs before getting fed up with having “digital roaming” at work. And I LIVE in a major city. Sprint is a joke. $99 for everything is a desperate cry for business.

Actually, no, the included maps application uses the GPS and is free. At least this is the case on the Pearl, and my understanding is the same will be true for the Curve.
