Live Pics of the Sony Ericsson Paris; HOT

This could be one of the hottest UIQ devices… Ever! Spy shots of the Sony Ericsson Paris (P5i) made the rounds a while back but this is the first time we’re seeing crystal clear live pictures of this hotty, and we’re in love. Slim form, sleek styling, finger and stylus-operated 2.8" touchscreen; it’s all good. The Paris will run UIQ 3.2 supported by a 360 MHz CPU. Integrated GPS, WiFi, UMTS and an M600-style keypad are just a few of the highlights that we’re really loving. And let’s not forget the 5 megapixel camera that we know will be solid Sony Ericsson quality. Still no word on a firm release date for the Paris but we’ll keep an eye peeled as we’re definitely looking forward to getting our hands on one.

First of all, aside from the 2.8″ VGA screen, those specs are totally made up. The people at Unwired View do not have the phone, they lifted the pictures off a message board. The phone will have UIQ 3.3, not 3.2, and will have a processor running at >400MHz, probably 440.

I hate it when people just make stuff up and think its ok. I’m not talking about BGR, you guys just quote people who make stuff up, which is not quite as bad, just lazy. Really, is it that hard to say “it has been rumored that Paris will have…”. SE has not released the phone or announced it, just because you’re just quoting another website does not absolve you of trying to be accurate.

is it me or are all these sliders beginning to look the same? I’m all for the N95 being popular but it seems like every company has to have something that looks just like it.

    Ditto what Randy says.

It’s been confirmed this runs UIQ 3.3–not 3.2. And the processor is much higher. Rumored to be based on OMAP 34xx.

Oh, and it’s rumored to be announced next week at the earliest. No later than the end of the month.

Dtest – This is only the 2nd time I’ve ever seen a slider smartphone with a 20-key QWERTY (HTC Touch Dual being the first).

Because of the QWERTY this is quite different from the N95 (at least in my book).

Are there other smartphones besides the Touch Dual out there with this form factor that I have missed?

Its not about the format of the keypad, its about the overall design. Most sliders haven’t looked unique in a while. The last slider I actually really liked was the Samsung D600. It wasn’t thin and thats mostly what I liked about it. The move to make everything really slim forces designs to look very similar…and pretty boring.
