Ten Minute Hands-on Video with the Nokia N96

Ok seriously, we want it. Italian mobile site Cellulare-Magazine managed to get their hands on the N96 and popped a sweet 10-minute hands-on video up on YouTube. This thing gets sexier every time we see it. Solid build, smooth lines, sleek case and form factor; it’s all good. Cellulare-Magazine does a pretty good job touring this prototype and it’s definitely worth a watch if you’re interested in seeing where Nokia flagship devices are headed. They left some cool stuff out of the video however, such as showcasing the dedicated multimedia keys that illuminate to the left of the screen when a media player is accessed. Rotate the device 180 degrees and open N-gage (or "N-gadget" as the narrator says) and gaming buttons are illuminated giving the N96 a classic "dpad on the left, buttons on the right" gaming configuration. The narrator also mentions that the handset includes tri-band UMTS with US-compatible frequencies, but then lists only European frequencies so we’re still a bit unclear in that department. Either way, that 950 mAh battery is going to last about 45 minutes if you plan to make solid use of UMTS. Hey, that’s why Proporta makes battery packs we suppose…

It’s an almost perfect phone. Almost, because 1) No touchscreen. 2) S60 is so last-gen.
But that device makes GBA emulation a dream.

Since when does a touchscreen immediately mean better? That, I must say is quite ignorant. I’ve used regular and touchscreen phones extensively, and I infinitely prefer regular, especially for texting. Unless of course you’ve got both touchscreen and QWERTY. But even the overrated iPhone won’t have that in its next-gen iteration.

i agree touch screens are a lame idea they use to much power and there more delicate i hated my tilt because i was always affraid id break it accidently. i think ill hold off on the n96 as well the keypad looks small as hell im opting for the e71 or was it the e72>? once you go qwerty you never go back,

Seriously, what is good about this thing other than the camera and N-gage? It’s a pretty lame upgrade to the N95.

    Bring on the Nokia Tube!

45 minutes? lol…. So let me guess to get any kind of use out of this phone you have to: turn off bluetooth, turn off 3G while not surfing, turn off ANYTHING running in the background, turn off the phone and not use it. LOL

If it had a QWERTY it would be no contest for me. Until then i shall remain loyal to my Brown Brick, The E90. And the tube for a weekend phone

    It’s low-res.
It’s thick, yet no qwerty keypad.
    It’s non-touch, yet clunky OS.
    And, it’s v.expensive.

Sure, Symbian is simple, and gets the job done. But the low-res screen is SOO last-gen.

I love the double slider though, I wish all phones were double sliders (phenomenal for emulation gaming)…
