Nokia May Announce the Long Awaited E71 on Thursday

How sweet would that be? It’s been quite a while since a few spy shots like the one above scampered across the internet and since then, dead airwaves. The Nokia E71 is definitely one of the more anticipated S60 handsets that we’ve had a taste of in recent history. It looks like more detail on this super-slim could come sooner than we all expected. Reports are beginning to gain momentum with regards to a possible announcement coming from Nokia as soon as this Thursday, May 8. Score! We also have some reported dimensions: 112 x 57 x 10 mm. If Nokia manages to somehow cram GPS, a 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera, 3G, WiFi and all the other goodies we’ve heard so far into a case that size, sign us up. Well, we have to see the battery size first as we’re admittedly a bit nervous in that respect. Some have suggested that the E71 may be released on Thursday but that, friends, is not going to happen. Baby steps people. Last thing of note: let’s not forget that our sources have all but guaranteed a US 3G version. Nice.

If its near the size of my blackberry curve, I might have to switch back to s60. I loved my E61i, but it was just too large of a phone. Hopefully they have trimmed it down enough.

    The E61i was 117 x 70 x 13.9
    The E71 is 112 x 57 x 10

    We’ll see..

While this is pretty sweet (even sweeter if the NAM version hits at the same time) any news or updates on the purported QWERTY Nseries device?

Between this, a NAM N82, the mythical QWERTY NSeries & the 3G iPhone, some potentially difficult decisions are going to have to be made.

Believe it when I see it. And S60 needs some serious attention before I jump on that archaic looking UI.

Yay! I have been waiting for one of these…
My wallet has trouble keeping up with these gadgets though.

I hope it improves on the E61i in terms of:
    Signal strength
    Size (smaller please)
    build quality
    FP1 at least
    GPS
    Cam

I hope it is an RF pig like the N95 this N95 is the best phone I have ever used…

Ha! If you think S60 3rd Edition SP2 is archaic, wait till you use Blackberry OS! Even the new v5.0 or whatever’s going to be on the 9000 is still old. Don’t get me wrong, I love my Crackberry, but give me some UI eye-candy!

I love my E65 i really do. It’s amazing. If the E61i was less “wide”, i would have bought it. But right now somehow, I feel s60 is more of a last-gen OS and it’s time to move on to something else, more “next-gen”…

Sweet - to me, the E71 seems to be a match for the BB9000 - GPS, WiFi, 3G, 3.2 MP cam. All this, with the usability of S60, BB Connect and Nokia design. I’ll be getting one of these and skipping the 9000!

C’mon Said it’s actually has same design as all new E series devices and since when has BB have had all the rights to make only phones in this gategory?
    Hint: look at E51.
Anyways hopefully it will have S60 3th fp2 and it’s a no brainer for me…if not i’ll wait for the first reviews and compare it to BB.

Does RIM not have patents against these type of designs?

What type of a design? A black phone with a full keyboard? No, you cannot patent something like that.

Looks and sounds good to me. But my bank account can only really hold money off for the Xperia X1 and/or Touch Diamond…maybe Ty-Tn III if they’re planning one.
