BlackBerry “Niagara”: The 3G-less BlackBerry 9000

So you know how we’ve been talking about the BlackBerry 9000’s ridiculously high selling price? Well, it looks like RIM is gearing up to launch a 3G-less BlackBerry 9000 so to speak. It looks pretty similar but there are also a few changes to the design like a larger bezel around the front, and a whole different back case. Besides no 3G, we’d imagine the specs to be pretty similar to the BlackBerry 9000. Enjoy a larger-sized photo of this conceptual sketch after the jump!
So I am guessing the 9000 BB w/out 3G can only Spawn Fairies from the convenience key as opposed to the Dragons the 9000 BB with 3G Can spawn.

I think its interesting how RIM is exploring different configurations. Everyone criticized Apple for not going 3G/GPS/WiFi/Bluetooth on their first phone, but RIM obviously realizes (like Apple) that its not that easy to provide every single feature at a) acceptable battery life b) acceptable price point.

9000 price point?
I bought my 8800 for att back when it was cingular and it was 250 USD (50 MIB, so 200 USD total) after a 2 year upgrade contract
I can’t see the 9000 being over 300 with a 2 year agreement, but then again I don’t know much when it comes to price points.
I absolutely want to grab the 9000 when it comes out but at a decent price (no more than 300)

Not everyone cares about 3G anyways, I have never had a problem with the speed of EDGE and I’m in Canada on Rogers Wireless, on top of that the more 3G devices that get released and purchased clears up more bandwidth off of EDGE, EDGE services will still be around for a long time, just like Analog/TDMA services were, their is TOO many devices out there that need the continued support for EDGE.
As for the SEC post, I’m still lol’n at that, I’m guessing half..if not more of this information is being leaked by RIM anyways in way or another…personally I think it’s geared towards viral marketing, with WES coming up..RIM is building their own hype aside from the hype the “BlackBerry” name already carries.
Their’s a play on the Research In Motion name, that is commonly used in Canada, it best describes RIM to a tee…

Now the pondering begins no 3g less money or 3g and faster speeds oh wait I live in a rural area that probably won’t see 3g for a good 3 to 5 years. Also to the guy who said who with a curve would buy a 3gless 9000. Well I know a lot of us 8300 users will and also tech nerds such as myself who are inticed by better screen resolutions more horspower and gps+wifi

Well i myself wouldnt, as the only reason i was going to get a 9000 was because of the 3G. The battery life on my curve is decent enough, and the screen is good to me. As for the wifi/gps thing, i barely use the wifi built in, and have no need for the GPS. I’ll take a 3G 9k anyday, but to me, without the 3G, its just an updated curve

Leaks like this one are good PR that create tons of hype and can actually bump up a stock’s price. But that bump in stock prices can be an issue if BGR were to have invested in RIM, or if RIM itself were responsible for the leaks. If they’re a third party or employee leak, it still, conceptually, could one day become an SEC issue. Why? Because RIM’s stock traded at 5% higher after news on the Kickstart broke on BGR. That’s $3.5 billion more according to the above author. There’s a bit more, but I’m still assuming that given a few hours, you could get a decent understanding of that approx 6-800 word, informally written blog post. Or are you that much of an idiot?

no 3g and cheaper price sounds good, especially with 25mb of data here on rogers in Canada, that’s the best bb plan here and anything over is $7 a my 3g just burns thru that quicker to end up costing you way more.

You’re going to have people accusing blogs and sites of profiting from stories they break, it’s nothing new.
Investors have been trolling these sites for years, looking for scoops. RIM shares have been hot for a long time. Why? because it’s a great product line. I own the stock myself.
Did I buy more when I saw the clamshell leak? Nope.
I have bought stock in companies when I hear leaks out of shows like CES, like when Anadigics got into Qualcomm. I think that was cNet.
I say don’t attack the media or the internet over these scoops.
