CNN set to launch new Canadian channel?
We’ve just got wind of a possible new CNN channel, specific to Canadian viewers. The news comes to us by way of Bell Canada. The cable provider is currently setting up their channel programming information for the upcoming 6 month period, and the company is preparing for the arrival of a brand new network on channel 499. The slot was purchased by Time Warner, which is CNN’s parent group, and the information points to a Canada-specific channel broadcasting news of National importance. No further information is available as of yet, but all signs point to a late 2008, early 2009 launch based on previous channel registration time lines. Wolf Blitzer will have to start brushing up on his Canadian. Wait, you’re telling me they speak the same language we do?

Who cares. Canadians dislike Americans anyway. They do have the American version CNN which is broadcasting now, at least in Toronto anyway.

Bell would have to go to the CRTC as a sponsor of the channel and have it approved before it could be avaliable in Canada, or Time Warner would have to make it’s own application for CNN Canada (like MSNBC Canada when it started before switching to the US feed). This has not happened yet and it can take a long time (it took over 6 months for a “NO” from the CRTC for the USA network)
Only thing I can see is maybe the US channel with Canadian news text avaliable
