Rogers makes N95 8GB launch official
Rogers wireless has just officially launched the Nokia N95 8GB, making them the first North American carrier to official support Nokia’s flagship handset. The phone will be available starting May 6th, which is next Tuesday for all you calendar-challenged folks, for $399 with a 3-year contract. Just shy of $400 isn’t too bad, but we wouldn’t sign a 3-year contract unless someone was holding us at gun point, so proceed at your own risk. Then again, this is one hell of a handset, and if official carrier support is your thing then this is pretty much your only option. For our readers up North, will you be scooping this thing up next week?

Well, Centennial Wireless has been selling the N95-3 for a while now, not sure if that counts though

I have the N95-3 unlocked and love it. I have an 8GB microSD card installed. The black N95-4 is great looking.

its a good phone for being three years old or something but 3 years is along time for a contract. That and the data prices in Canada, poor Canadians.

Well luckily Dtest, because Rogers has picked up the N95-4, it qualifies for unlimited data for $7/month. It is yet to be seen if they’ll allow you to use the S60 browser or if they have their crappy Rogers branded WAP-only browser loaded onto the phone. Either way, it’s not enough for me to part ways with my unlocked N95-3

OH my god people, you are getting ripped off, i got my n95 8gb for £220 unlocked about 450$ with no contract. Jeez guys smell the coffee, surly you can get the phone from europe online?

3 year contract? What kind of prison is that?
To this day I still *hate* Verizon for making 2 year contracts the norm in the US market. And now we are going for 3?

I don’t know why anyone would run out and buy one of these.
With the Iphone and the BB9K both comming this year. Along with these much awaited devices is supposed to be a better data plan. On top of that we should start seeing new GSM carriers in Canada in 2009.
Sign a 3 year contract ? Now ? Not a chance.

this phone is targeted at a different segment than either of those other phones.
this is a 5megapixel phone, fully featured.
the iPhone is a fashion phone aimed at driving itunes revenue. Thee BB9K is a business target.
The N95 is the best combination of features and integration I have used / seen (and yes this is relative to the iPhone)

No point in buying this ,,,,
Current Data Rates on Rogers makes this phone unaffordable .
here is what 45.00 gets me
$45 4 MB* (BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) only) 150 Weekday Minutes
Unlimited Evenings & Week-ends (9PM-7AM)
Unlimited Incoming Minutes 30¢/minute
$10/MB with Overage

i have the N95-4 and it is the best phone on the market….and will be for awhile. No phone even comes close specs for specs. How many phones can record video at 30 frames/sec? 5 mega pixel camera w/ a zeiss lens, WiFi, 3G, a superior OS that is open to 3rd party apps, TV out,….etc.

Rogers is one of Canada’s most unethical companies. I’ve had several truly mind-bogglingly awful experiences with them. So let me see, I would rather sign a 10-year contract with their competitor and get a shitty Razr (or something as archaic) than get this snazzy Nokia phone through those sheisters. It’s time people finally start boycotting shoddy companies, no matter what “cool” products they try to push on people. Rise up, Canadians!

All I’ve read are people complaining. If you can’t afford it… don’t buy it?
The phone is worth $800 from Nokia, so paying half that, is no biggy and the 3 year contract? Wow… after a year you are up for an upgrade through Rogers. Mind you I’ve had no problems besides the high data rates. I only pay $25/mth for 200mins and unlimited weekend evening after 6pm and unlimited text, so I guess I’m 1 in the norm.

My tariff from vodafone UK is 750 mins 750 texts any time any network 200mb download bundle for £23pm and i got the phone for free on a 12 month contract!!!!!!!! Also you may be able to upgrade after 1 years contract but extends the contract for another year so basically your back to 3 years!

Sorry Josh, signing up for 3 years with Rogers is pretty smart. You can upgrade to new subsidized handsets every 12 months, any software/hardware issues Rogers replaces the handset no questions asked, and for customer service and network strength you can touch Rogers.
I can guarantee I will try this, then iphone, and BB900 all through Rogers (no other Canadian carrier can deliver the goods!).

Am I missing somthing here?
With the N96 announced in AUG, who would sign 36 months for the N95 in MAY??
Typically should be the other way round no?
Pay big $ for the newer model, not the old one….

Nope, I won’t put myself to jail for 3 yrs by adding 399 for this big old chunky N95 which thick enough to crack my jean, I’ll never pay for that ridiculous data monthly charge from greedy ROGER$!

Can anyone in Canada confirm that this phone is for sale through Roger’s yet? I checked their website and there’s is nothing about there yet. Anyone found one in any Roger’s shops?
