BlackBerry KickStart: T-Mobile launch and a whole bunch of specs!

You didn’t think we’d actually leave you hangin’, did you? To follow up on on yesterday’s post of the BlackBerry KickStart photos, we’ve got here a couple more images of the phone with T-Mobile branding and some interesting details on the physical design attributes. It looks like the screen is monochromatic with a color glow. Whatever that means. We’re imagining the border around the screen to possibly "glow" different colors and when the outer display is off, it’s invisible. You just see the shiny black face. There’s a whole bunch of colors set to launch with the KickStart and they’ll be anodized. Additionally, the back battery cover will either be a soft-touch rubberized finish, or a low gloss finish. We’d imagine some sort of customization opportunities for the end user with the low gloss finish. Perhaps you could get the battery cover with personalized images and things. Sounds fun. Ready for the hard specaroonies? Who are we kidding — you know you are!

  • Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE
  • "Next Gen" SureType keyboard
  • 2 Megapixel camera
  • 16-bit color LCDs
  • Internal LCD is 240×320, external one is 160×128
  • Wi-Fi b,g
  • 3.5mm headset jack
  • OS is 4.6

We’re not going to flat out call it, but look for a release around September on T-Mobile! Hit the jump for the rest of the shots!

They are really reaching out to a different market in my mind here. I like the concept. I wonder what will happen with it and how it will function.

Also, there has been so many complaints about a blackberry as a phone, the quality isnt always the best. I wonder how this will work.

I like it. I want it. I don’t want T-Mobile. So, looks like I’ll be waiting awhile.

Finally TMo gets something new. Now if only they could get the 9000 I would be so happy.

I have been with TMo since they were voicestream and you just can’t beat their prices.

Meh… not a big fan of the flip phones anymore. After you get your first berry, it just feels kinda useless to go back to any other format. I’m sure RIM will make a good device. Just not the one for me. Interesting that RIM is surging ahead so quickly. 3 new phones gracing the rumor mills of the internet. I’m just glad that the 9000 and 9100 will be AT&T exclusives. I’ll hold my judgment on the 9100 until I get my hands on one but the 9000 looks like it will phase out my curve nicely.

Of course not – I know their coverage is sub-par, but that’s why I carry around a verizon flip to compliment my BB ;)

I will have to get this from T-mob & use that as my side account. Right now my business & family lines are all through AT&T & they suck a$$ so it will be nice to be wanted & respected as a customer. Have dealt with T-mob in the past & LOVED them. Don’t know why I ever left (& NO coverage was not a problem where I live).

the design looks a lot like a Sony Ericsson flip to me… any chance that SE did the hardware for RIM?

I would love this phone. Sad thing is my contract runs out next week. I think I will stick with my current plan for now until at least the apple WWDC is over – this way I can see if I want this guy, the other 9000 series phones or the new iPhone.

Ironically. My current bill for two lines is $50 a month (I’m grandfathered in to an older plan) if I got this phone, I would probably get it with Hotspot @ home and at least basic e-mail service, so I wouldn’t save any money on my monthly bill

Actually T-mobile has one of the best coverage in the Northwest, on Consumer Reports for the best Celcompanies, T-mobile and Verizon are tied for the top spot, and AT&t and sprint in the distant last spots…

Actually sounds pretty cool as an entry level BB. TMO? Certainly has the cheapest rates, but also has the worst coverage. Carry 2 phones? eh….

Open your eyes people. Coverage is location specific. It’s a dumb argument to rehash over and over again since it can vary from person to person.

Where I live, T-Mobile works great. Where you live, it might suck. Who cares. The HS@H feature alone will allow for full signal inside your home when connected to your AP regardless of how weak or strong the mobile network is outdoors.

AT&T, Verizon and Sprint will soon offer a similar service (Femtocell) to their customers nationwide because they too suffer from indoor coverage issues in certain locations. (Sprint already is offering this in some regions)

I have a Tmobile MDA and love their network, but need something a little slimer and more BB ish. I was looking at the 8820, but this could be interesting.

Only problem, Where are the pics of the keyboard!?
