BlackBerry Kickstart, the clamshell flip phone? We’re unveiling it to you for the first time!

Are you ready, people? We’ve been holding this info for a while now trying to confirm it, but no more! We have here pictures of a new BlackBerry device. It is a BlackBerry clamshell — a flip phone and codenamed the Kickstart! Let me repeat this. This isn’t fake, this isn’t a hoax. We’ve known RIM is planning to launch a flip phone within the year, and we now have the pictures to prove it! As you can see, it uses a SureType keyboard, has an external LCD, and a pretty decent looking internal LCD. It also uses the TrackBall for navigation and does have a camera. We’re hearing a release date before the end of the year. What do y’all think of it? Hit the gallery for all the pictures of the brand new BlackBerry flip phone!

So far I myself don’t see the full Specs on this particularl model. All I read was it has a built in Camera with 2 mega pixel but where is the Video capability & how many MB’s does this flip device have & also what’s the largest Memory Card this thing can handle? 2Gb?,4Gb?,8Gb? Does it come with a USB cord to connect with a PC? If so, where do you connect the USB cord from your PC to your Kickstart phone & and what does the Charger look like? Does it come with Headsets? Where are those at? The bottom line here is…..some people might check it out & some of us might not. Before anyone decides on purchasing this model, its gonna have to do something way better than any of the previous BlackBerry’s that have been on the market in order to convince any consumer that’s out there in society. So far quite a few people would like to see a BlackBerry device like the Curve or Pearl & other BB devices have a built in Camera & Video capability that we can send to other cellphones besides just E-mail. When is that type of BB coming out? Well enough said at this point, I guess everybody will have to wait & see what awaits further for every consumer that’s out there again ……til then, I wanna wish everybody a terrific week & a great weekend. Thanx Every 1.

    Getting closer.

Still needs QWERTY keyboard; SureType isn’t good enough. Palm Centro does it on a comfortable form factor; surely RIM can find a way.

And I suppose someday a BlackBerry device will actually be usable on the World Wide Web.

Then we can chat about “new and exciting” stuff from RIM. Until then, they’re still trying.

    Very trying.

But, assuming this isn’t a hoax, it’s nice to see that RIM finally understands that some of us want a flip phone and will sacrifice MANY other features in order to get one.

One gross analog motion to answer the call. One gross analog motion to end it.
Those who want this will NEVER like your button-mashing solutions, much the same way that you button-oriented folks will never like our flip-to-answer/close-to-avoid-butt-dial solutions.

A good phone manufacturer needs to cater to both crowds.

So — if this is real — there is hope yet for BlackBerry.

1st… People who think this is going to sell like hotcakes are delusional.

2nd… It’s no where near being an iPhone killer.

3rd… You have to enjoy the fact that RIM has made a flip phone as the market trend is, in not has already, slowed down on the flip phone form factor.

Having tried the Samsung T719, which I purchased for almost $400, I’d say “No, thank you” on this BlackBerry Flip.

I could not agree more. All pertinent questions.!

For me, I like a flip phone..note emphasis on the PHONE Part - an area that BB is seriously lacking in IMHO. Their microphones suck large.! So As Gr8Guy notes, that unless this unit is a way better PHONE than previous models, I’ll stick with my 8830 and H700 BT headgear.

Well, I for one would be very interested in a flip BB and I’ve talked about it with a few of my friends - virtually all IT guys - and every one of them was excited about the idea. I think there’s definitely a market out there.

As for the iPhone killer question… who cares? I think it’s a very poor idea to hold the iPhone up as THE standard against which every other phone must be judged. Yes, it’s pretty. Yes, it’s neat. Yes, it’s bloody pricey. Yes, I’d be happy to carry something else.

Pathetic. That is obviously fake and RIM would kill themselves by releasing something like that.
