Salesforce Ditching PC and Going Mac?

We want to call shenanigans on this one, but crazier things have happened. Rumor has it that Salesforce.com is about to undertake a massive equipment overhaul to the tune of a new Mac for each of its 4,000+ employees. Unlikely as it may seem, a supposed email from a Salesforce employee states that Dell’s deal is coming to a close and the company has no intentions of renewing it.

Salesforce.com is giving Macs to all employees. Yup, all 4000 of us; we are going to be one of the largest enterprise software Mac shops around.  As the leases come up for the Dells, IT is replacing with Macs.

Now you’re probably thinking to yourself, "why would a CRM house catering exclusively to the PC-dominated enterprise market go with Mac?" You’re not the only one. The leaked email points to security issues and the resources that will be saved in the long run by not having to defend its oh-so-vulnerable PCs against intrusion, viruses and the like. Even still, Salesforce’s close integration with Microsoft Outlook would make a move like this peculiar and trying, to say the least.

Well if IBM is already doing it, it might be a good idea for any other company to start doing it too

Good for them. Their IT department is not going to know what to do with all their free time now that they’re not chasing down the latest, patch, virus or spyware epidemic that is prevalent in the PC world. And what’s so great about Outhouse.

I really feel sorry for the people in their IT department…switching to a completely new system is never fun…if a windows pc is set up properly and the person using it isn’t an idiot its very secure.

I’m going to channel some hackers for a second…

“Heheh, 4k targets all feeling safe because their shiny new Macs are so secure… *cracks fingers* Time to use that code I’ve been saving for a special moment…”

It’s been said before and I will say it yet again. The only, ONLY reason Apple enjoys this thin veil of “security” superiority is because there are more PCs, thus a better payout for the work. The moment a nice fat, complacent target appears, well, the honeymoon might end.

Hopefully Apple will get better at issuing patches.

Hey – Keymaker – IBM is not doing it. They are offering to reimburse a portion of the purchase price of a macbook OR a Lenovo PC of the employees choice, the catch is, support, and warranty work is the responsibility of the employee. This is only for very specific employee categories. IBM IS NOT moving to MAC.

Well, Apple is far from a rival when it comes to personal computers, IBM got out of commodity markets.

Well this could be legit, salesforce was a part of the iphone sdk release.

also, gal the mba hack was a safari exploit that was patched very quickly.

the ibm thing was just that they were issuing macs to their programmers so they could work on mac apps. it was posted in here, look it up.

the whole mac is only safer because of the numbers is only half true, the unix / bsd kernel is more secure than windows, thats the half.
