CompUSA to re-open…sort of

The death of CompUSA last year was a sad day for fan boys of the big box retailer (yes, there were a few). Unfortunately, tough times and even tougher competition forced the big chain into bankruptcy after a long, illustrious career of low prices and poor customer service. It seems, however, that we haven’t seen the last of these guys. Word on the street is that online retailer Tiger Direct is planning on resurrecting the CompUSA brand for 15 new stores across the state of Florida. No word on precisely when we can expect these to open, but the company is already circulating Grand Re-Opening flyer’s, so it can’t be too long now.

I got a big screw up the ass because of this. I knew about this awhile ago because I bought a mac laptop and an ipod there with their warranty. I went to change over my ipod because it was having issues only to find there is no such thing as compusa per say and now I have to call some number noone answers after 2 hrs on hold for a refund. I am still on that mission. I am trying to get a refund so I can just buy the apple care instead of their warranty. All of us warranty holders got seriously jacked.

The question is why wouldn’t they just keep 15 stores they had in Florida? Now they have to pay to set up a bunch of new stores.

I think it’s because TigerDirect hasn’t bought out the CompUSA really. It just bought “CompUSA.com”. That’s why they can’t do anything about any CompUSA store.

I miss CompUSA. It is the place to go if you want to mod your computers. Best Buy doesn’t have that stuff.

I use Circuit City for all of my electronics purchases. Excellent customer service, knowledgable staff, and great prices!

Actually, the CompUSA down the street from my house (in Deerfield Beach, FL) never actually closed. Right around the time they started hauling out their extra crap and floor stands, Tiger Direct bought them up. Now the store is back open.

Sure, their customer service sucks and no one there actually knows anything about what they’re selling outside of the training documents but they’ve got decent sales all the time.

Why are you buying an extended warranty in the first place? Isn’t that really what your seeking the answer to?

You can’t be serious. Circuit City has no clue, Best Buy has no PC DIY stuff at all. There is only a single store worth your time and thats MicroCenter, too bad they have limited locations.

Compusa stores are already opening in FL. They shut down one of the Tampa stores a few months back, and now it reopened 3 weeks ago.

Plz this is an half assed attempt to resurect a dead brand. CompUSA in its retail form is dead. But Tiger thinks CompUSA.com Retail will somehow make everyone flock to them. Its the same shitty customer service and kNOloedgeable reps and overpriced parts in a new name. All there doing is adding .com to the old stores. So what will they call their new website compusa.com.com !

I will never spend another penny at the *New* CompUSA ever again.

I bought a printer during their grand re-opening in Plano, TX to find out that they had literally scammed everybody to believe it would come with a rebate (which it did not) and when I went to return the unopened printer in-store, they “tried” to say they don’t accept any returns from that manufacturer. In the end they made it seem like they were doing me a favor by giving me my money back and on my way out I told them I’d do them a favor suggest they work harder to make friends and customers.

I’m taking my business elsewhere. I recommend you do too.
