Cleaning up those BlackBerry rumors
So you might have seen a couple things floating around on the BlackBerry 9000 lately. One of them is that Fortune recently went ahead and declared an August release for the device. The other is that a RIM "spokesperson" claims that the reason we’re now hearing battery life issues is because power management is usually turned off to "help with debugging". Let’s break this down a bit. First…the power issues:
I’m all for corporate spin, but for them to have the audacity to even hint there are no power issues is an insult to all people with an IQ of, let’s say, over 70. Let me preface this by saying I have had an extremely early prototype of every single BlackBerry device since the Pearl 8100, and have never, not ever, not once, had battery life issues. Not even with the buggiest of beta software and not final hardware. The reason the BlackBerry 9000 has power issues is because of the new 624MHz Intel processor RIM is using along with the 3G chip. I may sound like a broken record here (do they make those anymore?) but using an archaic operating system and dressing it up ain’t gonna help. Putting lip stick on a pig does not make it a pretty girl last time I checked. There are most certainly major power issues with the BlackBerry 9000, hence the delays in the devices release. Which leads me to…
Oh, Fortune. You may remember this little article that was posted about a month ago, you know, the one where we said the BlackBerry 9000 was delayed until July or August? Yes, the very same information you just regurgitated while incorrectly reporting on the BlackBerry 9000’s model and codename. But it’s all good, our readers know who said it first, we just expect a little more from you…
So, why exactly am I bitching? BG, why so agitated? Well, I work hard to deliver all the information I do to our readers and anyone who finds it interesting. Do I care about not getting links? Negatory. Do I care that my exclusive information was republished without my permission into a "new" story a month later? Yes. What if Fortune had their own sources and simply posted what they were told? Then they’re not doing a very good job. Are they that starved for stories that they’re publishing an article a month after it was first broken? That would be like CNN running Election Day coverage a month after MSNBC. Glad I don’t work there…
Am I a complete jerkface for posting this? Am I short on sleep and patience and long on dislike of all things unoriginal and recycled? Do you completely agree with me? Sound off. I want to know your thoughts.

Sound On-
When people use other peoples ideas, they go to court, and pay the bill. all you did was confront a company who did 1 of 2 things-
either..
#1- are so low budget, they dont even have interns reading LEGIT sites for information that is already been reported,
or
#2- They felt like your little blog post was not super clear (which is a joke) and somehow you were guessing and they had cold hard facts..
either one to me is not ok, I’d say you went easy on em’. I hope there was a few behind closed door phone calls where you had it out when them.
I would have known about this except I dont read that trash, I dont have time for bs,
so i stick with the 2 sources that give me the news I want, FIRST, fair, and give credit where credit is due. aka
BOY GENIUS & engadget.

this is what i posted on cnn/fortune… bg and jibi.(imo and fact) best blackberry bloggers on the net. and im not kissing @ss its a fact. blowing off steam is one thing. but legally something can be done. now there is no doubt cnn time warner fortune can spend millions on lawyers a year so id be quite hard to sue them for being really pissed off. and prob. in the end even if you did. you wouldnt win. but. i took it upon myself as a rim employee. to email a letter to the head of the legal dept at rim. what fortune wrote is illegal and he called rim before hand and said that they could not comment and wouldnt speak to him. knowing that he publishes an article with false information on one of the most read sites on the planet and for everyones information this article of falseness has caused rims stock to drop significantly. just from his article. wall street big wigs and regular investors alike all got panic mode after this. see now knowing laws on this. he did not use any words like possible, rummored, maybe, could happen, he used words as if concrete information from rim was released. and it never was. nore did he have permission from rim to state things in a way as if he had facts from rim reps. because tbh that article has affected millions. and millions of dollars were lost over a false article. its not the last you will here about this. but on my end. ive sent out over 50 emails for them to petition this article. to people who can get it done. and retract false unfounded statements publicly. youll see in the end who has the last laugh. and as an investor/employee im furious… and you should all be too.
this whole post is false and not only that it has been stolen and completely causing a whole blackberry community to reflect on this information. this was first and for most reported by http://WWW.BOYGENIUSREPORT.COM well well over a month ago and even prior to that. and you take information, false information and release it to people. the truth in the story that was stolen from boy genius, and now posted on here with false information. reading this is making me repulsed. you want the facts. read it at boygeniusreport.com and in no way am i affiliated with bg or his site other then being on it every single day. and i give him and his team credit for doing full research on things before they are posted. he has a following of millions of blackberry users. and i am one myself as well as knowing many people in the rim industry. who have read and commented as well as fowarded me this redundant article. do your research before posting false information……. legal department at rim has been sent the link to this article because you have forgot to use words like its rumored, speculation, possible, etc. you write in terms like you have concrete evidence.. went you have false wonderings. enjoy

Welcome to corporate journalism. The day of the journalist (ie someone who can actually write vs regurgitate) is coming to an end soon.

Well said. I also recall a major news paper who had someone on their staff who ultimately was found to be stealing other reporters work and passing it off as their own. Ultimately the person who wrote the fortune article could have a personal axe to grind, could possibly want to hurt a certain stock and help another stock or could just be a friggin moron who after a simple search of the internet could find updated information and ultimately not look so incompetent.
I heard about the BG site a while ago and read it multiple times a day regardless of the topic. BG has the real info and certainly has the contacts.

One sort of related question…would this new BB come out with availability to Sprint customers, I ask this because Sprint is coming out hopefully with the curve way after ATT+T had it.
Thanks
