Two new HTC models set to hit Sprint
Remember that spy shot of a new anonymous HTC device? Things are getting a bit more clear. It turns out that the device in question is actually the HTC Raphael, apparently designed to be the replacement for the current generation HTC Mogul. The handset sports a slide-out QWERTY keypad that looks to be a bit of a departure from the current generation HTC keyboard, and sports a full VGA screen, Wi-Fi, a 3 megapixel camera, and aGPS support. This one is expected to hit shelves in sometime in September. As if that wasn’t enough, there’s also a new Touch replacement in the works, codenamed the HTC Diamond. It looks very similar to the Raphael, but apparantly lacks the QWERTY keypad of it’s brethren. Specs appear to be otherwise identical. Expect this handset to launch on Sprint sometime next November. Oh, and both devices are currently slated to run Windows Mobile, so don’t get too excited about any Android offerings just yet, but if this is the first round of next-gen HTC devices, consider us sold.
also look for them on gsm too. Add to that mix also a 528mhz processor on both the raphael and diamond.

Silly MisRemembered…you’ve forgotten that the only constant in life is that things will and invariably do change. This may be Dan Hesse’s first step (one of) in turning his downtrodden company around. Hell, maybe he even secured exclusivity.
i want to know how much ram is under the hood. that was my biggest issue with the mogul (p4000 in canada) better be at least 128 like the touch. id love more though

That’s an excellent point. I’m sure they will have at least some exlusivity for a bit like they did with the Touch. However, I hope they market these devices properly during said exlusivity unlike what they did with the Touch (a COMPLETE LACK of marketing). I swear, every time I use my Touch, I get “That thing is really cool…what the hell is it?”.

Jeff, look up Taiwan and tell me that it was not part of China? Its people are Chinese and they have a struggle within the country of whether they will rejoin China. Look these things up before going out on the limb.

OK, I ignored you the first time, but damn, you really need to get your facts straight.
Taiwan was once part of China but not now. Just as the US was part of the UK but is not now.
Try calling a “true” Taiwanese person Chinese and see the response you get. Trust me, they don’t call themselves Chinese, just as the Brit’s here didn’t call themselves English when they declared independence.
There is a political party there that wants to rejoin China but they are extremists and don’t hold that much power. It ain’t gonna happen.
In a world where Android wasn’t a possibility, I would have bought the Raphael. Waiting for the Dream….
DTest: speaking of a history lesson — I am sure you already know that Taiwan was occupied by and under Japanese control from 1895 to 1945, right? Seriously, have spent significant time in Taiwan or ever studied the history and culture of the island? Can you speak Taiwanese? If not, please reconsider your position and authority on this topic.
Now, then back to the phone…..I am very curious about the thickness of this device. All the pictures I’ve seen thus far are pretty-much head-on plan-view type. It looks to have a large footprint though, so it better be thin. And 5-band HSUPA would be great.
Why would HTC have a global announcment for phones heading to Sprint? I would think they would make GSM versions instaed? I hope the GSM versions are announced at the same time, and are available sooner.
scoop, yes i did know about the japanese occupation and that most the people are a mix of malay/chinese. But come on the country’s official name is the Republic of China and the majority of the people speak Mandarin. All this because of a “silly chinese” comment, nice. I still think though that if you call your own country China then its no disrespect to them to call them Chinese.
But seriously i wasn’t insulting Taiwanese or HTC all i said was silly Chinese about the sharp corners on the device. I guess everyone had to get their politicly correct comment in there.
and Jeff B. I have nothing against HTC, in fact today i told a new employee that we are getting her a company phone and I recommended the Tilt. So I’m not a complete fanboy.
