Alltel announces BlackBerry 8330

Who will be the first American carrier to actually offer the new CDMA BlackBerry Curve to its customers? The race, dear readers, is on. Things were looking good for Sprint, with the carrier promising an April14th drop date for the sexy new BlackBerry 8330. That day, however, has come and gone and the handset is still not available for purchase. New rumors place the next possible drop towards the end of the month, but we haven’t heard anything specific. Verizon is promising a May launch, but has been woefully quite in regards to a specific date. Finally, Alltel has just announced their flavor of 8330. The device, which is functionally identical to the Sprint version, has been announced with a May 1st launch. If things keep going south for Sprint, it looks like Alltel might take the prize here. Whether or not it comes out first, the handset will run you $229 after a $100 mail-in rebate, and can be pre-ordered right now. If you’re interested, hit the link for more info.

Why is BGR just now posting this. This is a few days old and sites like bbgeeks and blackberrycool posted before BGR. Come on guys, please don’t slip. Lol, I’m just giving you a hard time, you guys are still my favorite. Could you try to find outfrom your VZW ninja, when the 8330 will be release?

What a shocker?! All this politicking amounting to Canadian carriers offering the curve before American….then again RIM is a Canadian company. At this rate, we’ll see the BB9000 come out same time as the curve. Then again what do i care…I’m with T-mobile.

So here’s the deal. I’m glad that Sprint abandoned their “Life at Sprint Speed” ad campaign because “Sprint Speed” leaves much to be desired.
Let me es’plain… First of all, I’ve had to deal with my 7100i for WAY too long while I watch my GSM friends boast their iPhones and their Curve 1s and Curve 2s. I’ve had to replace my whip antenna 3 times because it got stuck OUT causing HORRIBLE embarrassment while my friends enjoy 3.5 mm headphone jacks and Bluetooth audio.
Now I’ve waited like a good little sheep-on-a-leash, waiting faithfully for Sprint to pull up from their corporate nose-dive only to have my chain yanked this way and that for over a year!
I would just as soon hear nothing at all rather than know about all of the missed deadlines and ambiguous communication. Why would they say “April 16th, April 20th, June 1st, 2nd or 3rd week in June, Sometime in May, Before the end of April, April 29th, April 27th er… I mean Before the end of April”?

Sprint, if you didn’t have me by the short-hairs of a contract and an AWESOME “simply everything plan”, I’d be somewhere, anywhere else.

Sprint’s release date for the 8330 will be May 3rd. Got that from customer service when they failed to release on April 20th. But you never know they may push it back again.

Sprint is set for early to mid-june, well last I heard.

Maybe they will release it with some glitches and what not so Alltel and Verizon don’t take their customers :p
