Skype to offer unlimited international calling for $9.95
Amidst rumors of parent company Ebay’s desire to pawn them off on the highest bidder, Skype appears to be cruising along without a care in the world. The company had a successful first quarter, and is about to offer a new plan that could attract even more subscribers. Beginning today, anyone so inclined can sign up for unlimited calling to landlines in any of 34 countries across the globe. The plan will run you $9.95, and includes unlimited calling to U.S. landlines and cellphones. International cellphone calls are restricted to Canada, China, Hong Kong, and Singapore, though landlines are free anywhere Skype offers Skype-landline service.

$9.95/mo? That’s not much of a deal. Other SIP VoIP providers give you 4 months of unlimited calling for that much money.

I knew there was a catch.
“* The legal bit – as part of our fair usage policy you’ll get up to 10,000 calling minutes per month.”

10,000 hours is 7 days of straight talk time or 5.5 hours of talk time each day. Thats a lot of talk time.
Anymore then that and its abusing the system.

I read something a bit different…
“The company said it was offering unlimited calls to landline and cell phones in the U.S. and Canada for $2.95 a month.
It also offers unlimited calls to phones in 34 countries including Australia, China, Germany, Japan and the United Kingdom, for $9.95 per month, it said.”

That’s a bit steep since it used to be free.
