Samsung SGH-i900 unveiled

In a press event earlier today, Samsung officially unveiled their newest Windows Mobile smartphone. The SGH-i900 is a beast of a handset, sporting single-band HSDPA/UMTS, Bluetooth 2.0, 802.11 b/g, GPS, and an onboard FM radio. That’s about all the connectivity you could reasonably expect to be crammed into device this size. It also sports a 5 megapixel camera, bringing it up to par with the current high-end offerings from Nokia and Sony Ericsson. Samsung indicated that the SGH-i900 will run Windows Mobile 6.1, with a gorgeous 240×400 screen. More importantly, perhaps, is that this baby will also be sporting 8 GB of internal memory. Not bad at all. No indication of when it might drop, and don’t expect to see this on our side of the water, but a little gadget lust never hurt anyone, right?

    i absolutly love this phone.
but its either this or iphone, and id prefer this.
but, does this phone have a normal headphone jack or a stupid one that you ened like 3 cords for?
cause im selling my current phone and ipod touch to get this, and i dont want this to be my main source of music if it’s going to have those annoying headphone cords.
thats the only reason im looking back on the iphone

but then again this phone has an awesum camera. iphone is wayy behind, camera wise.

Let me give just a detailed specs on iPhone and I900, correct me if i’m wrong :). But we shouldn’t really compare a multimedia-PDA phone with a normal multimedia phone. IPhone will eventually lose out.

Network: IPhone uses HSDPA(1.8 mdps), I900 uses HSDPA(7.2 MDPS).

LCD: IPhone has a 3.5 inch Half VGA while I900 has a 3.2 inch wide QVGA.

Camera: Obvious win-over for I900, with a face detection of up to 8 faces, smile shots, panaroma shots, mosaic shots and geo-tagging features. Also it’s 5 megapixel with digital zooming, video recording and MMS.

Memory: IPhone has an internal storage size of either 8GB or 16GB ONLY, without an expandable slot. I900 has an internal storage size of either 8GB or 16GB too, but with an expandable slot, microSD card up to 8GB. Which means I900 can go up to an considerable huge storage size of up to 24GB!!!

USB ports: IPhone uses a 1.1 port while I900 uses a 2.0 port.

Tv Output\FM Radio: I900 yes, IPhone nope.

    Battery: IPhone uses a 1400mAH batt, I900 uses a 1440mAH batt.

And of course there’s still a list to go on on the pros of I900 as it is a PDA phone. For examples, Mobile office, Push Emails, Digital Frame, Etiquette Sensors, Mouse, 3.5G, QuadBand, Light Sensors, Opera Browser(For tabbed browsing), DIVX video quality, Plug and Play using active sync on any vista comps, google maps and MSN.

IPhone has it’s benefits though, it sure has a better audio and music quality. Much better touch interaction.

this is the lastest in the line of iphone killers. none will succeed, even if they happen to have better features. you cant beat apple marketing, no one in this blog honestly believes you can. if no one knows about your phone, it will not sell. half of these iphone killers dont even have commercials. plus, even if it sometimes dissapoints, apple attempts to release updates every couple of months for the iphone, another reason these iphone killers die out…

I’m not saying the i-phone 3g sucks I think it’s a wonderful device (original I phone sucked) This phone is going for -630.00 chf. that’s about $630.00 US today so you guys crying about how expensive it is need to hush. The phone blows the I phone 3G out the water due to its video connector, 5Mp auto focus camera with flash, removable battery, and about a gazillion other features and software you I zombies haven’t even seen yet. This is not just an I phone killer, it kills every phone on the market. The only phones that even come close are the HTC Tilt and Diamond.

Question for all the pro’s: The battery in the iPhone is not user replaceable (so I hear); what about the i900? Can the battery be user replaced?

Comment: The US seems to lag behind the world (ok maybe not just in this sense) when it comes to mobile phone service and service providers… Why do they all insist on ‘locking’ their phones to their own system?

The iphone was ripped from the OX2, or more over the windows pocket phone edition. I still have mine from 4-5 yrs ago. It did not have all of the upgrades like, blue-tooth, A2DP, FM radio, camera, edge, 3G or flash. So remember Windows had that exact same model first and it was touch screen, hence windows mobile 2/3 with active sync. Iphone was based on the same device except with an up grade. As far as the design, candybars, clamshell and sliders are it, unless you can remember the old motorola big block. Now there’s an idea if you don’t like the design, then submit one to the company and stop whining.

    Right On ScottieC,

the Iphone ripped off people in the very beginning, $800 for the first idiots to buy, then reduced by $400 after all the bugs and sub-par performance & BS gadgetry. Not to mention no document editor for the most popular forms in business communication. So far the iphone is a big gimmick in advertising, and a lot of suckers fell for the outer package. No matter how you wrap it, it still is sh.

The I900 has everything the iphonie isn’t, and all that it wants to be. Let me see the iphone do auto focus, 5mp cam, flash, GPS, FM radio and even a memory card slot on top of the already generous onboard.

iPhone ripoff? I say Apple deserves it, thank god I can see one MS Smartphone take on the iPhone, and the I’m rooting for the Smartphone. iPhone has a SAR rating of 1.4 W/kg, and this one has 0.6 W/kg, plus I like windows better than mac, always have, and probably always will
