Samsung SGH-i900 unveiled

In a press event earlier today, Samsung officially unveiled their newest Windows Mobile smartphone. The SGH-i900 is a beast of a handset, sporting single-band HSDPA/UMTS, Bluetooth 2.0, 802.11 b/g, GPS, and an onboard FM radio. That’s about all the connectivity you could reasonably expect to be crammed into device this size. It also sports a 5 megapixel camera, bringing it up to par with the current high-end offerings from Nokia and Sony Ericsson. Samsung indicated that the SGH-i900 will run Windows Mobile 6.1, with a gorgeous 240×400 screen. More importantly, perhaps, is that this baby will also be sporting 8 GB of internal memory. Not bad at all. No indication of when it might drop, and don’t expect to see this on our side of the water, but a little gadget lust never hurt anyone, right?

Why is it when anything really cool comes out it is not ment for the US. That SUCKS. How hard is it to put a Quad band GSM and TriBand HSDPA radio in a cell phone. It can’t cost that much more and you are opening up a much broader market potential. I just don’t get it.

So I understand this phone won’t be sold in the US, yet I would like to hear why BGR thinks that this phone would be worse then a 3G iPhone.

Why is everyone shouting these phones are iphone ripoffs, they are not. LG, Samsung, HTC they have been making these kind of touchscreen phones for yeares. Open your iphone and you will find a number of parts apple baught from Samsung Helloooooooooooooo. Not to mention the number of update they have had since the launch of the phone. Certainly the apple iphone owners will agree, wll many not be all. Just because the Apples marketing team is excellent thats why everyone thinks that apple is the first to make this kind of phone. Enough said

Who cares? That’s what innovation is about. I have no doubts that the iPhone ripped off features of other phones, too. Go away Apple fanboy.

I think what’s being referred to as “ripoff” is the shell design. Now I don’t own an iPhone or an iPod Touch, but that shell does look a wee bit similar.

Very little of the tech in apples products can be seen as revolutionary and new in the respect that it all relies on existing components. However what apple have specialised in over the years is finding ways to combine and inter-connect existing technology in very handy form-factors.

While that might not be groundbreaking science, it is still correctly labelled innovation.

Also, as mentioned earlier, apple have some very talented marketing people (not unlike other big companies) who have successfully time and time again led the consumer to believe that innovation equals revolution.

Again: Which major tech company does not aim like this?

Regarding the product in question I’m puzzled as to why Samsung chose to have regular buttons added below the touch-screen interface. Why not go all the way like apple and others have done? (Excluding the one menu button which most units incorporate).

ok. 3g iPhone probably the biggest dissapointment ever. it sucks compared to a lot of the touch phones lately. like HTC Touch Diamond/Pro or the x1. and now this. :-/

HTC has been making touchscreens far longer before iPhone came out. so NOT A IPHONE RIP OFF. IPHONE KILLER is what it is

even if it looks like they “ripped off” the the iphone, who cares! they are filling in the much needed upgrades that apple continually ignores like camera and other features.

I am very excited to see when this may come to the States, i hope they decide to keep the FM transmitter in it. It is really annoying that they dont even consider us when they launch these phones.

Wow.. this gets really annoying.. Just because this phone doesnt have a VGA screen and Safari doesnt mean it isnt better than the iPhone..
Its Windows Mobile 6.1 and the new Opera Web Browser will be available for this phone..
iPhone has nothing great about it except for its web browser and iPod capabilities.. THATS IT..
This is a feaute packed phone thats looks amazing with the aluminum brushed look around the screen.. 5MP camera with auto focus, face detection and flash..and it does have a FM radio with RDS..not sure about the transmitter though.. with a choice of an 8 gig or 16 gig harddrive just in case you arent able to afford the phone..
I dont understand how this can be rip off.. just because it has a touchscreen? and the design? how else are you sapposed to design a touch screen phone? its just the screen.. do you want it to be a triangle? So stupid..
Those arent buttons in the bottom they are touch.. its the end button and the pick up button to receive calls.. and the black button in the middle works as a cursor like the i780..
    This phone is great…

To the person who is saying its only 200 dollars for the iPhone 3G, thats on a 2 year term/contract. You cant forget about the 30 dollars just for the data plan on its own.. not including the fees and whatever other bundles needed.. and to buy it on its own in Europe without a plan is $499 Euros for the 8 gig and $569 Euros for the 16 gig.. I heard the Samsung will be $850 US for the 16 gig which is about the same price as the new iPhone.. Personally, I would rather own a fast, feature packed phone for the same price as a highly advertised piece of garbage also known as an iPhone.. Im not hating on the iPhone it love the touch screen my sister has one so i know, but its just not worth it..
